Except me and many other ppl I know still don't like Bieber :air:

Gaga's way of getting the GP back feels more genuine tbh

Plus, Justin's felt rushed. And Gaga was taken, now 2 years for her comeback.

She doesn't have a legion of loyal fans who would support her regardless of what she does. Bieber fans would be unfazed if he vomitted all over a baby and sacrificed it to the chart gods.

Idk. People hates Bieber just for being a douchebag and having a high voice and girly features, but people hate Gaga because she stands up for gay rights and think she's an attention *****. Bieber naturally grew out of his, but I don't see Gaga proving herself out of those judgments like Bieber did :/

also she just needa to make great music like Buber, and the rest will follow. Thank god RedOne is back.

I was just pondering the many performances and awards Gaga has and will be doing/earning in the near future. These many performances, which show off Gaga's tremendous vocal ability and also showcase her toned down look, seem to be an effort to get the public to see Gaga in a new and perhaps "better" light than that of the ARTPOP Gaga. If you remember, the media trashed Gaga in 2013/2014 and some people, even little monsters (i know a few), lost interest in her.

This got me thinking, wow this is very similar to the Justin Bieber experience. Now, Justin had fallen in a much different way than Gaga and was disliked for other reasons. But what we can compare is the fact that these two HUGE pop superstars from the turn of the decade had lost their appeal.

Justin and his team strategically planned (or so it seemed) a come back with many opportunities for Justin to show that he was jut misunderstood. These events included the Comedy Central Roast and his 1,000 appearances on Ellen. He was also given the opportunity to show off his new sound on the Jack U song "Where Are U Now", which the public seemed to really like. And guess what, this tactic worked better than anyone could have probably hoped, with Justin earning a #1 album and 3 #1 songs.

I feel like Gaga's performances mirror what Justin and his team had done, but are tailored in a way that will be fitting for a big Gaga comeback. Honestly, if this is what's happening, I'm excited because I'm ready for three more Lady Gaga #1 hits!

What do you guys think?

I dont think it is comparable, because Justin's musically directed in a different direction....being towards the popular audience, i think Gaga can't get as big as Justin's music nowadays, not because she aren't capable, she just choose to explore herself in music differently. ;)

90% of justins comeback was like visual if he wasnt young and attractive it would have had nowhere near the impact it did

gaga doesnt have this same advantage because she no longer appeals to a demographic that foremost cares about appearance

Not completely. His music is extremely radio friendly too.

This is no shade to Gaga or Bieber, but this "normalize yourself and win the GP back" strategy has been done by dozens and dozens of controversial acts before them. Perhaps most notably, Madonna's reinvention after the extremely polarizing 'Erotica' era which led to the Take a Bow/Evita/motherhood era of Madonna.

I think she will succeed because she is so frikkin confident now. people like that, she looks sorted and determined which is good. I remember her interview at Ellen in 2013 was so awkward in that sense. That 'I can't believe you still like me' or shy way she picked up the cd to show to the public made me cringe.

I think that's what most important apart from good music ofc

They're a better receptacle container for piss than mop buckets. If no one had noticed, there would have been a nice  sheen of J.B. piss coating the floor of that restaurant.

It's actually a trend that you see in art all the time, and not just on a micro level like that :laughga:. Whenever one extreme is held on to for too long, it's bound to flip over to the other extreme at some point. An artist that started out as extreme as Gaga is bound to drastically change between extremes like she has over the past years.

You can see how "natural" a change like that is when looking at art history. The Rennaisance was very simplictic and clean, but it flowed into the Baroque which is known for being excessively detailed and stylized. That in turn flowed into Neo Classicism, which is basically a return to Rennaisance and clean, "classic" style, only to be followed by Romantisicm which was all about extremes, drama and hyperboles :laughga:. I could go on but you get the point. It's a very natural fluctuation that works both on a personal level as well as a cultural level.

And I mean, the whole music industry is going for a "minimalistic" and "natural" approach right now, which is also a simple response to the crazy years we've gone through from 2009-2013.

Tbh it's just a flip of image to get the public back on your side. It's all PR and literally the reason every artist has PR teams. Justin wasn't the first to turn around and have a big comeback and Gaga won't be the last. I think their situations are kind of comparable in that they seemed to be very calculated, but their start points and end goals are different. I wouldn't call it a 'Bieber approach' though as many artists have tried to make themselves seem attractive to a mainstream audience after a rocky period.
