Listen, the moment you justified your indifference to these boy's traumatic brain injuries by even mentioning that they receive free college text books, I knew that nothing I had to say would be able to change your point of view. You and I have a different code of ethics, and that is all there is to it.

BUT most people are stupid, or at the very least most people are incredibly ill-informed.

Forget the athletes in the NFL, think about the parents of little children who play football. The parents who have been told for decades, by the NFL, that the sport their son's are playing is safe. Who were they meant to trust? The NFL says it is okay, the government seems to have no problem with children playing football, so who are these parents meant to turn to for guidance? We live in a country where children are not allowed to drink alcohol because it inhibits their brain development, but there are no laws against letting children play sports which we know will cause them serious brain damage.

We made a national past time out of watching beautiful men in their prime receive traumatic brain injuries. It's barbaric, and it wont last much longer.

I think you are underestimating people.
Most everyone knows it's not safe, they just don't care. Just like smokers. They know.
I blame the parents who force their kids to play football, mostly at the risk of public shame or even abuse should they protest. And the kids indeed do not know or cannot understand the risk.
But the adults who play football? Come on. I won't blame the NFL, they can make their own decisions. They should be allowed to play it if they want too. Lest we tell sky divers, scuba divers, skiers, snow boarders, skateboarders and more that they can't do the thing they love either. They all know the risks as well.
Hear hear to the idea that it won't last much longer though. I'm not sure how realistic that assumption is... however.

The popularity of boxing has fallen dramatically since its heyday, due in large part to the public being unable to stomach the violence. I don't think it's unrealistic to think football will follow suit. Football as it is now will not last very long, even the NFL knows that. Before you absolve the NFL of any blame, just check out this little article.

I mean, the NFL is awful just like the meat/dairy/egg industry, the tobacco industry, etc... I'm not saying they don't try to cover up the fact that multiple concussions cause brain injuries. They do, that's how they make money.

But what I am saying is that you don't absolve the parents or adult players of their responsibility and part in this. Unlike the dairy industry, who can say that milk is good for you and people believe it because they don't know any better, the NFL is saying concussions and brain damage is harmless. If anyone believes that, I'm sure they also believe they can pray the brain damage away through the power of christian science.

The odds of a singer being shot while performing are incredibly slim. The odds of a teacher being the victim of a school shooting are slim, even in America. Due to strict precautions the odds of a doctor catching Ebola are slim. The odds of a professional football player suffering from brain damage? Certainty. That is the difference.

Men are literally destroying their brains on live television for our entertainment. Boston University did autopsies on 79 former NFL players and 76 tested positive for CTE. There has been a rash of suicides by former players, all of whom were found to have been suffering from CTE. We know for a fact that the way football is played is detrimental to the health of the players.

If you are comfortable with that, as it seems most people in American and in this thread are, then by all means continue watching football and supporting the NFL. I'll just be in the minority who opt out of supporting destructive personal choices and the evil corporation who profits from those destructive personal choices.

You just took the examples that most fit your argument to respond me tho... I just meant that every job has its risks, in a lower (teachers, doctors...) or higher (quarry worker, F1 driver, a workman, a football player). The thing is, that everyone have their risks. You chose your job, and you deal with the risks that come with it. And if you don't want risks... you can get another. Football players nowadays are tottally aware of those risks. And they keep playing. Why I am suppossed to feel bad for that? Is anyone putting a gun on their heads to play for my entertainment (well, not mine for sure, because idgaf about football).

In my post I was pretty clear about my thoughts on NFL covering up these things.

And I'll tell you more, these people are paid millions for playing a game. I honestly feel worse when a doctor who was in Africa trying to help people (knowing the risks and for almost no money most of the times) dies because they get some virus. There are a lot, not 1 or 2. Those are risking their lifes to help others. Football players do it because they like it and they get millions for it. I don't think that if you ask any football player why is he playing he will answer: because I want to entertain 120million people tonight.

And do you know why the singers and teachers situations can not be compared to the football players? Because those consequences are not something that come for their own actions, they come from another person who does something on them. They don't chose to get shoot. Football players chose to hit one to another.
