The fact that they don't need it, because every single day is straight pride and their rights have never been in jeopardy. They are only trying to ridicule the actual purpose of gay pride. Some people can't live without the spotlight shining on them 24/7.

Tell that to straight women :emma:

Like I said, they are doing no harm.

I think some people are confusing this for "Homophobic Pride". There's nothing inherently wrong with "Straight Pride". The intent is clearly to ridicule, but they're pretty much failing at it if the tiniest iota of logic is applied to it, unless you are easily offended by the notion of straights being proud of themselves too and "stealing" our holiday.

I mean if straight people want to have straight pride and stuff then okay great go for it, personally I think it's unnecessary but if it makes them happier then okay :laughga: What I have a problem with is them doing it in protest of a gay-straight alliance because they're doing it to spread intolerance and to ultimately isolate and alienate a group of people :wtf:

Right, but again... who cares. This doesn't hurt LGBT people, just makes these people look like idiots. The message is the same one LGBT endorse too. Straight people aren't excluded from pride.

I don't think you get the message, most straight prides endorse everything anti lgbt and love between only a male and a female. For example, here straight pride is used to be anti lgbt. In terms of it not harming the lgbtmovement, it clearly is harming the movement, 1 by the fact we are even talking about it proves that its a threat and secondly it spreads a message which is completely opposite of the LGBT movement, since this message is completely opposite, it is thus a harm to LGBT rights.

They're failing at it though. Straight pride has no negative connotations whatsoever.

Again how do "Straight Pride" signs harm LGBT rights? There's nothing inherently wrong with that sign. If anything they just reaffirm the LGBT message of taking pride on oneself no matter what.

I don't care about their intent. Some LGBT do Gay Pride to stick it to the "breeders" too. That's also wrong.

People shouldn't take offense at this. They should say "No ****".

It's like someone calling me a fag and me telling them that if they wanted to smoke it all they had to do is ask.

People should worry less about intent and more about making people look like idiots. As it stands they're doing it all on their own.

Everyone with a minuscule amount of rational thought knows that they are doing this because they are pissed about gay pride. That's the beauty of this situation...they are actually pointing out what shallow idiots they are to everyone else in the school. The sane people will roll their eyes at these fools. Let them identify themselves!

Like I said I think most people are conflating "Straight Pride" with "Homophobic Pride".

Once they start tooting the latter, I'll join you guys in taking offense.

The problem with gay and straight pride is that they aren't even about 'pride' anymore. Ones used here as an offense to gay rights and the other Is about wearing as little clothes as possible and getting wasted nowadays.

Both aren't really about pride anymore. The message got lost. :(

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

In this specific situation it is being used as "Homophobic Pride" but just under a different name, that's where the issue is :emma: I'm with you about Straight Pride not being a big deal or a problem or whatever, it's like "meh okay if you feel like you want/need it" :toofunny:

In theory no, straight pride wouldn't have negative connotations. In this situation though it's been created to oppose the gay-straight alliance which is FOR acceptance and tolerance and all of those good things, therefore if it's against those good things then it is negative and it's pushing forward a negative and hateful agenda :noparty:

Oh I know. I'm not challenging that their intent is to ridicule. That much is clear.I think we should just turn the tables on them and say "No ****" rather than take offense. Use their own message against them.

I get where people here are coming from. I'm simply more interested in being indifferent to this blatant stupidity or fighting back with fire rather than taking offense. That's their goal. We don't want to fall for it. Don't play their game.

But I suppose people are too wrapped up in taking offense that they don't fight back with logic.

This is probably true in the USA.

It's still important outside of it. Lebanon had a small "Gay Pride" event a while back and it was all over the news. They wore full clothes :P
