I know right.  I wanted something strong and catchy.  I can't just settle for less just because it's her.  Since she doesn't write her music and it's been so long until we had a real single, I'm just not feeling it.

Exactly! She could just buy a catchy good single instead of that crap :emma:

I'm not one to hate on songs, but this was pretty bad since it's been highly anticipated :duck::emma:

The song is cute, but not worth the 3 years wait .... I mean she had way better lead singles back when she was releasing albums like every year :neyde:

Let me turn into a Rihanna stan finally :gaycat: This song > BBHMM > 45S > American **** :wtf:

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

The song is garbage and commercial as ****. I'm so ****ing sick of mainstream/corporate pop "music"... It has no substance and no soul. This is what passes for music, nowadays, very sad. I bet this song will be a #1 Billboard hot 100 hit because everyone loves terrible shitty "music"... You won't find good, real, and quality music in the lamestream.

Actually it's not commercial at all. Look at the immediate response. Not just here, visit any forum/website right now... Everyone is saying "what is this?" or "we expected We Found Love/Pour It Up/BBHMM". This IS experimental for her. Minimal production, her Bajan accent shining heavily through the lyrics. It completely relies on her vocals since the background melody is so simple and repetitive. If it's true she's booked for the SuperBowl and Grammy's it show her team wants her to have the major slots so the song/album get's the push it'll need for being this urban. It's extremely urban, this is the sound urban music has been going in for years, it sound straight out of a Arca meets Tinashe mixtape (not her commercial debut album, but her mixtape Amethyst.) It's like one of those Arca/Tinashe/Future mixtapes had a child with a Major Lazer Caribbean "island" vocal. It's definitely NOT commercial. She could've chosen the commercial direction of this genre and released something like Sorry by Bieber. It's bloody Rihanna, Diplo would flip his schedule to work with her if needed. It's a sign. She WANTS to do this, otherwise she'd jump on the actual island/techno sound Bieber is making mainstream right now. Also look at her imagery, she's giving zero f*cks. She's making the videos she wants to make, even if they get age-restricted on YouTube/Vevo. Or receive little attention like American Oxygen. Her photoshoots are different, arty, experimental...

This song is all about the "vibe". The word "vibe" is very big right now in the urban scene, Kanye's new album Waves is supposed to be "all about the vibes." It's minimal and therefore actually feels more intimate. The lyrics are actually quite personal if you look into it too, given Rihanna and Drake have dated in the past. They actually talk about "workworkworkworkwork" being in the way of being together. Quite refreshing actually, they could've done a typical love or club song together.

And maybe this is the most radio-friendly out of the album. If she really made the experimental urban/trap/minimal/vibe-y album everyone claimed it would be, this song might actually be a great indication. Just imagine this is the most commercial one, we could actually have a really fresh, innovative, never heard sound on the rest of the record.

I'm excited. It's fresh. It's the anti-Rihanna lead single (I see what she did there). No big hooks, no big production, no banger of a chorus. She's given us so many hits and bops over the years, let the girl release one experimental urban record.

The worst Rihanna single ever imo. It's so boring. Can't believe she made us wait so long...for this. I didn't know I could lose MORE faith in anti :awkney:

i didnt find it THAT bad like all of you made it sound. i do see that the lyrics are kinda lazy and she really doesnt speak  up. feels like she´s mumbling under her breath. my main issue is that i was expecting a huge breakdown full of energy, and this song doesnt really accomplish that, its like a nice in between song on an album, but most certainly NOT lead single material.
