yASSsss 35,510
Katy Perry is famous for her colorful-candy image and for making hit bubblegum pop music. Many artists/singers in the music industry change their image and music style from time to time-Lady Gaga,Rihanna,Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift are some current examples. But Katy, she never changes. She doesn't want to be challenged whether its about her music or her overall Image. While her contemporaries are always changing, Katy on the other side has been milking this image for over 6 years now and it seems that its not going away anytime soon. During her interview with Associated Press, she talked about the reinvention- "I also think it’s important for me to maybe start reinventing myself. Because I can’t keep topping myself because I’ll just combust at some point. You can’t keep topping yourself when you’re at such a height. There’s only one Mount Everest and once you’ve reached it, it’s like where do you go from there? You’ve just got to sail somewhere else,” As a result, she plans to “craft songs about ‘real life experiences'” Its clear that she wants to explore some new things in her career now that she's hit 30 (however, the lyrics she posted on twitter recently say otherwise) Judging by Katy's image, I think most of Katy's fans are Teens/Pre-teens who love colorful videos with flowers, walking Gummy Bears and Twerking Ice Cream. What will happen, when she tries a mature approach for her music? Will the public be here for it,considering that this is not what she's been doing her whole career and people are not used to it.She released "Unconditionally" as a second single from PRISM which was a different kind of song from her previous singles and it didn't do well on the charts. She could release mature songs like Legendary Lovers,By the Grace of God as singles but instead she went for Birthday,This is How We Do(fun cheesy songs, for which she's famous) but unfortunately these safe choices didn't pay off and the songs performed so badly on the charts.Recently,She released a Christmas Single. It came and went and no one bothered to notice. Her manager revealed that she's planning a released later this year, most likely Q4.Many Major artists are rumored to released their albums in this time frame,so it's pretty clear that there will be stiff competition for the charts. All artists(or Entertainer in Katy's case) hit some highs and lows in their careers but Katy hasn't seen any failure yet. She's coming off from the eras like TD and PRISM,she did a Superbowl Half-time show which was the most-viewed Super Bowl half-time show in the history.Fans/media have high expectations from her.She talks about reinvention but she don't have the talent or courage to do what Gaga did or many other artists are doing with their careers. So,Will KP4 be her ARTPOP era and she'll be outshadowed by other artists or she's going to slay the charts as usual(the only thing which she's good at)? Will this so called "re-invention" put an end to her chart success or she'll be coming back even stronger. There is no real way to predict this cuz in the end,it all comes down to the music's quality but what do you guys feel about her next album, that's the point of this discussion. Will it be a Hit or a Miss? Fiona Apple 13,006
Hopefully it will be her best album.. Will it flop? Probably compared to her last 2 albums. But it will still be a decent success

AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I agree that her fan base is purely the teen/pre teen group. The only friends I have that stan for her as an artist () are the closeted gays who still live in the days of having the most likes on Instagram. I don't know if she will fade but she will not be remembered as an icon or legend... Neither her music or image provides much to that status. Do I think she will continue to have success? Yes. Do I hope she grows and become an artist? Yes. She could go the Carly Rae Jepsen route and release a solid pop record instead of just singles. Will she? That seems to be determined in the future. I hope KP4 has songs that are personal and don't feed her pop image. Currently listening to Joanne
GloZell Green 11,723
If her music starts being more serious, she'll flop. If she makes more bubblegum party songs, she'll be the same or maybe less successful but still successful. Judging from the "lyrics" she posted, it looks like she's taking a serious turn. Bonkers 28,059
I've always thought that Gaga was partly responsible for Katie's last album being huge. The mainstream wanted to kick Lady Gaga, and so they were eager to find something to compare her to... Katy was in the right place at the right time. No disrespect to Katy - it wasn't an evil plan or anything, and the album would have been huge no matter what - I just think that the people who wanted a way to kick Gaga used Katy because her success was billed as Gaga's failure.
