Should Gaga go country?

Garth is talking about doing a collaboration with Gaga, not about wanting her to "go country".   :toofunny:

Do you people not really understand what a collaboration is? Each artist brings their specialty to the partnership. They don't mimick each other!

I'm seriously getting chills at the idea of Gaga covering Fancy!! She could slay this song/persona!

I contemplated making the discussion of Fancy its own thread.

Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker

Truth! This was a Shania song if I ever heard one.

Only Shania's version would be renamed... You (and I)!

Taking us back on topic, though... These "kudos" from Garth Brooks are extremely credible. Garth is complimenting Gaga for her ability to slay as both an exceptional vocal/musical talent and a modern over-the-top entertainment force. His words are carefully chosen and he is giving her the ultimate props ---- especially considering that he is one of the RARE performers who have mastered both of those talents. And he absolutely has the receipts to prove it.

No shade to our mods, but why is there a "News" posting about J.Lo giving Gaga love when Garth gave her 10x more respect in this quote?! This is proof of Gaga's impact.

I mean ---- there are very few folks who could make Garth Brooks nervous to perform in front of.

Could she?  Yes.  Should she?  I dunno if it'd be a smart move, but I'd be here for it.

As someone who comes from country culture, and who listens to country music on a regular basis, I can tell you that though she definitely has the chops for it, the country music scene/culture wouldn't fully accept her, because she's already built herself an image as a pop girl.  If there's one thing most country music fans hate more than people who turn their back on country music, like Taylor Swift, it's people from other genres who try to break into country.  If she really wanted to break into the country music scene at all, I think she could have some success if she added some Southern/heartland rock flavor to LG5, then continued to add more on LG6.  Think Alabama crossed with Stevie Nicks crossed with You and I.  I don't think she'd ever be able to fully cross into the country music scene by the time she retired, but I do think that adding some more heartland /Americana feel to her music would definitely help increase her appeal to fringe country fans.  I'd certainly be here for it.  But I think it'd be important that she went for a more Southern/heartland rock vibe rather than full country.  Classic rock fans are more accepting of new stars paying homage than country fans.     xD

Edit:  Also, if she could blend some classic arena rock aka Don't Stop Believing/Turn Back TIme in with it, and throw pop music back to the days when it was epic as hell in the 80s, I would die of happiness.  That is all.

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

Agreed. I would (clearly) absolutely be here for Country Gaga, but it needs to come many years down the road when she is in a different place in her career and country audiences are ready to receive it. She's absolutely capable, but the timing has to be right. And she has to build a context for it.

Yep.  If she tried to jump from PopGa to JazzGa to CountryGa, she'd sell worse than Steve Grand, and be panned by country critics left and right.  It'd be a career-killer if she did it now, but if she works up to it, I could see an epic arena/heartland/Southern rock influenced album(maybe with EDM influences? Who knows) somewhere years down the line.

Also, fellow country guy and Gaga fan, let's be friends.  There are so few of us here.
