Gagadonna 10,801
Dear all, I have been quite a big fan of Sia's work since 1000 forms of fear and I've been expecting much from This is acting. But when I read many times that the album was made of songs other singers had refused... I felt like the album would be a wastebasket. I am the kind of fan who needs to know about the creative process, the message of the artist and the meaning of the songs to enjoy the album of one my faves as one whole unit. Even though I like the songs on the album separately (I have just listened to it as it leaked), I cannot digest the idea of the album being a set of songs for other artists. It would mean the songs are not particulary connected to Sia, and that she put out the album in order to put out an album, which makes the album look very commercial. I may be too demanding but with such an artist as Sia, I think I am entitled to. So, what do you think? For those who have listened to the album, do you think the album is personal? + What's your favorite song of the album? Mine is Bird Set Free. GagaXCupcakke 3,818
They aren't connected to Sia. But she is acting like they are. Actors or Actresses do roles that aren't connected to them all the time. She's bringing these songs to life even though the original artists didn't want to. This is Acting. Juvi 1,639
i don't think it's personal but eventually she will say it is for promotional reasons, which is pissing me off already. Because so many artist put out an album that should be only for fun *COUGH*ARTPOP*COUGH* but for lack of success the album gets it has to become something personal & new interpretations on songs will be told, while the truth is that writing those songs it was probably just a song for fun but to get people talking they get very personal, blah blah blah.... Music 15,215
it is interesting to think about it, considering 1000 Forms Of Fear being almost opposite to this album - such a personal album with connections to suicide, death, heartbreak, individualism and resilience. obviously, she wasn't going to have her next Chandelier on this album, but as many stated above, the concept of the album was to sing/"act" the struggles of other intended artists. she has said that One Million Bullets was a song she wrote for herself (she felt attached to it) so i guess this song and perhaps Bird Set Free are the closest on a personal level. i really hope this lack of attachment doesn't alter your view on the album, because like every other Sia album, it demonstrates her brilliance in songwriting - from lyrics to melodies. Sia 314
Her biggest song chandelier got refused by Rihanna and Katy Perry so ?? Don't be insecure if you heart is pure, you're still good to me if you're a bad kid baby.

How could anyone reject Chandelier? I mean However, I'm grateful it wasn't sang by Katy Perry omg imagine the decay. Such a beautiful song sang bυ such a dull, almost-talented artist I would hate Chandelier. Now it's one of my all-time favourite songs

Ps: I love Chandelier but one Chandelier is enough, it must remain unique.

eifulien 2,392
I don't think so. Putting it next to 1000FOF is so strange. Still the album is full of bops. It was never meant to be personal so you don't need to worry about that. Just enjoy it. My faves are One million bullets and Unstoppable.
sursumd 44
Really, almost every album by a pop artist should be called this is acting, especially since most of them don't even write their own music. Sia actually wrote these songs, just because she didn't write them about herself doesn't mean they aren't as good as something that would have been biographical in nature. Beyonce and Rihanna host writing camps were dozens of other writers produce their material for them and then they choose what song they want to karaoke on. You should have a bigger problem with those type of artists. Sia is 100% honest about what she is presenting here unlike other pop stars.
arsmusic 180
Even tho it may not be personal for her, it's still very relatable and full of bops.
