Minorities are far more racist against white people than the opposite these days. Minority voters will simply vote for minority candidates for the sake of "inclusion and diversity"

There is no word in any language to describe how hilarious I will find it when next year #OscarsSoWhite happens again. But it's an improvement, I guess. The next year that this happens they can blame a more diverse Academy!

Maybe next year there will be more realistic options for the major categories. I know that Don Cheadle directed and starred in "Miles Ahead", which is an upcoming biopic on Miles Davis. That might turn out as a great movie and option, if it is released at the right time...and has a good campaign behind it.

There has to be excellent movies with excellent roles AND full time campaigns behind those movies for months (or even years) for viable options. Change doesn't happen in one year. The movies coming out over the next year have been in the works for years and most have been filmed well over a year ago. People forget that. They believe that movies that are being cast or in production right now, will come out months from now, and that's not the case.

Adding more diversity to the voting poll is a small part of the equation, when looking at the steps that need to happen overall, but it's a step in the right direction.

This is such a tricky subject. It's not about fulfilling quotas (or shouldn't be) but about making sure that everyone has a chance to be recognized for their hard/good work in the industry. I don't know what the solution is, maybe this is a good step in the right direction. Maybe it's more divisive. There are good, hard working people at every core of the industry, from actors, to directors, to designers, to tech persons that I'm sure come in every color and gender. I think we just want to be sure that people that are qualified in their fields aren't being accidentely (or purposely) overlooked, and I'm sure that's what many others want to. I don't necessarily know if this is the right step (maybe so). A lot of people chosen and awarded are more than deserving of their nomination/wins, they just happen to be white. Would there have been more qualified individuals of another skin color? Quite possibly, perhaps. Perhaps not in some cases. I think though if we wanted to really dig into the issue, we should look at the very bottom levels. What about casting agencies? Are they rejecting qualified candidates because of skin color? Or perception of public interest towards' a man or woman of a certain ethnicity? They are a business, so naturally they want applicants that will make them money. So then we look at the studios. Are there enough good roles or projects that are offered to people of color, and not just blacks and latinos, what about those of asian or middle eastern heritage? Of course then this gets tricky because we may then focus too much on establishing quotas and not hiring the best people for the job. To edit a film, skin color matters not the slightest, but are there good editors being over looked because they are a darker shade than another? But then what do you do when you have two people of different ethnicities that are equally qualified? See how it can get so tricky? I don't think there is a single solution, I think there would require many different outlooks into this, and it may be many, many, many years before it feels like an "even" playing field.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
