JeffSwift 314
Can someone inform me if there was any influential movies/roles produced or anything by african americans? I don't watch movies enough and the last movie I saw was Jurassic World... Giving me Nicki Minaj teas, when she didn't get nominated for the VMA's. Schwerk 7,250
The problem lies with Hollywood not hiring enough racially diverse actors. You can't blame the Oscars for nominating white actors if that's the majority of what is cast to begin with. The Oscars just showcase the lack of diversity in Hollywood, they don't necessarily justify it in my opinion. The problem lies much deeper. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
DiscoHeaven23 35,007
I'm not speaking to the Oscars lack of diversity (which i find shameful), Im speaking to Jada herself. I just find it amusing how all of a sudden this year she's speaking out against the Oscars, when this has been going on for a while. Oh wait, wasn't her husband snubbed this year by the Oscars? It seems a bit self-motivated.

Jordan, John Boyega and Samuel L. Jackson just to name few. And a lot of great movies were snubbed too. About John, there was no way any of the actors from Star Wars would get nominated for it. We also need to remember though that the voting committee is 94% white, so the voting process seems unfair from the get-go.
Bette Davis 12,742
I think she handled it in a very mature, classy way she's so respectable and wise. I personally don't believe the Oscar's are the main culprit, I think it's the film industry. The Oscar's seem to usually be happy to recognize and award black talent. It's sad in the film industry how little diversity there is. I can hardly name any famous Latino or Asian actors/actresses. There are even rumors that Scarlett Johansson is going to play Mulan in a live action film.. Really, you can't even give that role to an Asian actress? Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. Harry 26,836
It's a sad and confusing situation but just like most people I agree that the issue doesn't begin with the Oscars, it's with "Hollywood" in general. Yes there are only a few black actors that got the Oscar buzz this time, but that raises an issue in itself. And the fact that there are hardly any actors of any ethnicity other than white in the running. I guess it's debatable whether the Oscars are inherently racist or whether their decisions in regards to nominations simply reflect on a much larger problem in the film industry. And we know that a lot of the Hollywood big wigs do turn actors away because of their race. So in the same way that the lack of diversity in the Oscars represents the lack of diversity in film generally, I fully support Jada's notion to boycott as the ceremony is being used as this metaphorical symbol, almost. Even if she isn't trying to make a stand against the industry but just this award show in particular, it keeps the dialogue going. And she's still supporting, respecting and loving, which I think is very admirable.
