Even if you discount the allegations against Terry Richardson (which by the way is tantamount to discounting Gaga's claim of having been taken advantage of by a producer), that doesn't explain her collaboration with R. Kelly, a man who raped and pissed on a thirteen year old girl.

I don't understand how I can be the only Gaga fan who is put off by her singing a song like Till It Happens To You considering her collaborations with Kelly and Richardson. It's hypocritical at best.

Kelly was aquitted from those charges though

First of all, it was stated from the very beginning that Diane brought the demo to Gaga and both of them then worked together to change it. It's clear Gaga wrote most of the instrumental while Diane wrote most of the lyrics and melody. As Gaga stated, Diane likes using more simple chords in the songs while she uses more complicated ones (simple chords aren't a bad thing btw they just create different sounds). It's also been stated in interviews that the original song was changed to be angrier as per Gaga's suggestion and Diane went with it. Without that change, 80% of the song would be completely different. Also (as Linda said), Gaga changed some of the lyrics.

Not sure what the meaning of calling both of them out at this point of time is. But it's sad that someone Gaga respects so much and paid tribute to at a song-writers icon award which she WON would choose to discredit her with these statements now and potentially tarnish their chances of winning an Oscar and Grammy for this song.

Take my hand. Stay, Joanne.

I always thought gaga just sang it and diane warren wrote it... i still kinda hope that bc i don't love it. its def not a signature gaga song style, u can tell she didn't have the full control over that track. why does it matter tho? And how does this woman know?

Why is this so hard to understand :emma:

I'm bringing them up because it supports my point: if this had happened to another artist, everyone would probably agree with Linda. The comparison matters because in this particular situation a double standard arises to the surface and I just think double standards should be addressed, that is all.

Except that's not what's happening here at this moment, thus no way to see if how individuals would respond to this theoretical situation. It is irrelevant and OT.

Unlike miss linda perry that situation was linked to Gaga's business so your point remains wanted.

I hope she doesn't say anything about this and Diane clears it up with "we've never hid anything or lied and Linda's entitled to her opinion."

Obvious with more "c*nts" and stuff about her cat :green:

Just calm down, guys. It's not as big a deal as it seems.

Diane seems to be the kind of girl to drag when she's not happy about something though..

Oh yeah. She'll more than likely have something to say about this. I just hope it doesn't get ugly :ohno:

No it's not lmao

Feel free to ignore my posts all you want though. But they're not irrelevant and they're not off-topic, so please use some other excuse to not have to respond to what I'm saying.

The possibility of two middle-aged legendary songwriters going at it over twitter just seems crazy. :air: I don't know if I want to see that or not.

Ugh, why must there always be something messy happening in Gagaland. :toofunny:

It's irrelevant because Katy and Bey have nothing to do with TiHTY and this mess happening here. If this topic were something in Gaga Thoughts musing about credits and lyrical contributions, and whatever biases or hypocrisies certain members here have about it, then yes, that conversation would make sense. I'm no mod, you can yap about it all you want, but it still has nothing to do with what is actually happening right now, so whatever.

Everyone knows R. Kelly was acquitted on a technicality.  Even if half the allegations against Terry Richardson and R. Kelly are true, considering how deeply effected Gaga claims to have been from her own experience with sexual misconduct, you'd think she would be more hesitant to give two alleged rapists a larger platform. This seems to be a fact that the press and this fan base are totally ignoring.

I'd rather she win an Oscar for a song she was more involved in the creation of, and preferably a song that didn't highlight her hypocrisy and busted moral compass.

Which “parts” constitute songwriting?

Generally speaking, any significant contribution to melody, lyrics, or structure typically counts as songwriting.

http://lawyerdrummer.com/resources/what-constitutes-songwriting-the-million-dollar-question-in-the-music-biz/

Accordingly, Gaga contributed a big part of making the melody of the song.  Also, even if Diane initially wrote all the lyrics, if Gaga had at least re-written a single line, she's automatically credited as one of the song writers. There's no reason to doubt her imo.
