Head Empty 25,071
I think it can work out great for her, as long as it's done right. She's already known for artistic, political statements, but most of her well-known moments have been misunderstood by the general audience. If she manages to make her statements clear and simple enough for the world to understand while maintaining that creative aura, it would be great. For example: Barely anyone understood the meat dress, and even Gaga's explanaitions left a lot to the imagination. It was a great PR moment in terms of notoriety, but I think in the long run it hurt her reputation. The 2009 VMA performance with the blood was a lot clearer, and actually got a lot of people hooked on her work. The performance was in synergy the song, and the general public was already knowledgeable enough about the topic to understand what she was saying - making it a succesful statement piece. With shock art it's always about knowing your audience, and knowing what you need to do to have your statements percieved in the way you want them to. Gaga has been putting the bar quite high for her audience over the past years in terms of how much she expects them to "think" about her work, which is why a lot of people simply don't understand it and cast her art aside. It all depends on whether she's willing to be tactical about her statements, or if she'll decide to cling on to her artistic visions in their rawest form, without first refining them for the public eye. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
mee 381
I'm shocked that you put the artistic and beautiful Paparazzi performance in the same category as the puke performance. Also with the meat dress, it was shocking but aesthetic. The puke thing was just a rebellious action that fits as a image to the festival, but it was nothing refined here...nothing what defined Lady Gaga as a serious artist. It's more childish, you know, like for example Miley on VMAs. But Paparazzi was not just the blood, it has real substance. It was the whole theme and how she expressed it in a very expressive, authentic, dramatic and artistic way through her raspy sweet and powerful singing, through her energetic and thight movements and the drama in her singing and her acting and the perfect shock phase from blood to the end. The whole setting and the dancer have refined and framed it. It's one of the best performances in pop culture ever. It was not gimmicky like the puke thing. Paparazzi on VMAs was a pure concentration of gagaesquement elixier and celebration of the artistic spirit in pop. Excellent performances like this will never damage her career....becauce they are on a very high artsy level and authentic. The meat dress should have been installed also in a high and clever premium performance like VMAs Paparazzi performance.

Kabexuela 1,184
What saddens me is the general public seem close minded about a woman with great talent and a very strong appreciation to express art in her work isn't taken seriously anymore. Art should influence the liking behind the artist not against it.

Iwontell 7,312
They might, if she even goes for something like that…look, she’s much more aware about things, so I think she’ll be much more careful when doing that kind of stuff… For example, haven’t you noticed how she has disappeared since the Golden Globes? She knew she was becoming way too fkn present after the show, it was becoming too much…2011’s Gaga would double down on it and smother people with her ubiquitousness. 2015’s Gaga just disappeared to let people breathe… So even if she goes for something “shocking” I think she’ll have a different angle on it, because you can shock people in many different ways…I mean, last year’s Oscar performance had some shock value to it, with her presenting herself in a way that was almost the very antithesis of her artistic persona up to that point…in other words she can be whimsical and bold, but also make it “accessible" to a larger audience… There are many other things to consider, like how almost all acts became a little boring over the last few years and are doing basically the same thing (so maybe doing something different can pay off now) or how "being outrageous" is kind of what you expect from Gaga (and from any authentic popstar, tbh)... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
Popo 3,781
The real shock would come when she acts normal and doesn't do anything controversial. She seems to get good press by toning down her antics, i don't see a reason for her to rock the boat.
REALITY 76,270
I think it really all depends on whether or not she'll be able to execute them well. Personally, I don't want to see any gimmicks or "shocking antics" because to me, it'll feel like she's trying too hard. Gaga's spent about 2 years (2014-15) trying to redefine her image. People now take her seriously as an artist, and I think that making those shocking antics would be a setback, and not really produce anything that she needs in her career. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎
mee 381
But i have to say, puke thing was at SXSW, so in a very different environment. It was not out of place or felt completely forced for attention. But it's not my taste. I like artistic performances like VMAs Paparazzi
