She should cover them up more often for these events. So many of her tattoos are simply so huge and modern that they would cheapen such a classy look. I'm not the biggest fan of tattoos but they can look good as long as they're done by a talented artist, are placed well, aren't too big, are all meaningful and there aren't too many of them. And Gaga used to be good on this front. But lately, some of them are basically pointless and just seem like an excuse to get something done. That mouse especially is ridiculous. Of all the images that you wanted etched on yourself to remind you of your sister, you chose that? And after all this time, was a monster paw really necessary? I could see her getting that done back in TFM days, but where did the sudden inspiration come from in the AP era? And I really think she should stop getting ones depicting her album titles. I mean, she got one for C2C and that's a duet side project! Seeing as she releases albums frequently, she's going to potentially be a mess in years to come if she keeps going this way. So, I'm pleased to see that even she knows when its time to draw the line and covers them up if they look like a bit much. I really don't want to be thinking of her at Madonna's age and covered in tattoos on ageing skin that's going wrinkly. If she stops now, she might just look ok in years to come. She's a beautiful woman and there's no need to put a bumper sticker on a Bentley. At least she hasn't done what Rihanna did and got her beautiful hand covered in an ugly tattoo that needed to be re-covered, making it look even more ugly.

Not sure it would have ruined the look, it worked pretty well at the Emmys. But yay, she was really aiming at something even more classic at the Globes, so I get why she did it.

Well, not stopped. But I am not a fan of the ones she got after (the paw, mouse, mother monster...). They are too much imo. 

I used to love all her tattoos and how clean they looked, now it is too messy.

But it is her body and is she wants to cover it, I am ok with it. Just my opinion, not going to like her less because of that. lol.

I think she was channelling a combination of The Countess to honour her role that she was nominated for, but with a Marilyn Monroe twist as... a personal comfort during a stressful time? Good luck omen? Because she felt like Marilyn in that situation?

I haven't seen that photo, only her red carpet ones, couldn't really tell in those ones but the pic you posted is obvious.

When you go to an event to be photographed you want the images to capture what you want the audience to see. In Gaga's case that's heightened to the extreme (she's always played with this since the very start) and I think in this case she just wanted to appear absolutely elegant and classy, like an old movie star.

Some people see Marilyn in it, I don't really think that's important. Most of all I just think she thought the tats would obstruct the look she was trying to convey.

To serve as a contrast:

You can't deny it makes her look different. The fantasy is gone (not a bad thing, but I just think she wanted fantasy for her GG look).
