Mast 980
"As Bowie reminds us, abusers do not look or act a certain way. They aren’t pure evil. They aren’t monsters. They are men and women, and everything in between, and sometimes they are the ones we love. When we tell ourselves that we need to overlook rape and sexual assault, just this once—because it was a long time ago and he did so much good and meant so much to so many—we become part and parcel of the rape culture we otherwise decry. The marginalized communities who embraced Bowie’s music are better than that, and we owe them and ourselves more than that. Applaud Bowie’s music, if you must, but allow the man the treatment he deserves." http://www.theestablishment.co/2016/01/11/david-bowie-rape-accusations-sexual-assault/ Super important read. He was an inspiration to many, but that does not pardon him from his crimes. Let's also not forget that he called his coming out as bisexual his biggest mistake even and claimed to be a "closeted heterosexual".

Warholian 6,880
This article is pointless. 95% of it has nothing to do with the accusations, and when it does, no information is given. Even more so, they're accusations. Michael Jackson was accused of child molestation multiple times, does that mean his death should've been surrounded by reminders of his trials and allegations? This is stupid either way. Unproved accusations from 30-40 years ago are less important than the actual massive impact he had on pop culture. It's been a day. Wait a little bit. Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?
kizurl 1,801
Someone just lost his father, her husband, his/her family member/close friend. The world just lost an important artist who paved the way for so many more incredible artists. Stop being insentitive. There's a time and place for discussions like these, now isn't the time. MJHolland 12,723
Well huh, I had no idea. Does anybody know why this didn't go to trial (or if it did)? But yeah, there's a fine line between bashing a dead person and remembering them (tbt to when I was banned for "remembering" a certain lost celebrity), so just be careful and respectful as always. Warholian 6,880
Also, what's so bad about him faking/forcing/retracting his bisexuality? That was common and customary among his community in the 1970s. It's no different from Ricky Martin pretending to be straight. Nothing's wrong with him coming to terms with his sexuality in later life. Sheesh. Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more? JbGaga 2,261
Omg wtf is this ****? So I guess being accused of rape is the same thing as being convicted of rape these days... MJHolland 12,723
Just now, Evan Peters said: because they're accusations. Right... Typically in a first-world judicial system when someone claims that someone else had sex with a 13 year old girl while on tour, there is usually a trial to examine the evidence... Does anybody else who isn't trying to be obnoxious have an answer to my question?

From what she says, she seems to think there was nothing wrong with Bowie engaging in sexual acts with a minor because of who he was. She didn't think there was a reason to press charges, so she never did.
