Chris Evans 8,917
I always say you can put the haters in different categories there's always one defining moment that made them that way whether it'd be BUT JESSICA LANGE or MADONNA IS BETTER I stopped caring long ago bc you can always tell what it is just by looking at the comment/profile

David Bowie was eccentric and provocative too, but nobody seemed to complain about him - they saw his legendary potential? Ist it because when a woman is outgoing and pushing boundaries it is viewed differently? So many people on my Facebook timeline (that I personally know) mocked her Golden Globe win or when I wrote how influenced Gaga is by Bowie one wrote "it's a mockery even comparing her to him" (I didn't compare, I just stated how much he meant to her, but they haven't understood that) etc. etc. - it seems to me some people will never "get" it... Like I post links where she sings live to proof that how amazingly talented she is for example and they don't want to even click on it. "Before I listen to Gaga, I would rather cut my ears off" some girl wrote to me. Uggghhh ... It makes me feel down. Like no matter what she does and how many awards she wins etc. - there will always be those people who don't even want to question their own prejudice and this just makes me sooo raging. Because I know some of those ignorants would LOVE her if they just clicked one of the videos I posted them tbh It's because she's a woman in pop music. For sure. Systematic misogyny is real! I also think Bowie meshed genres better than she has. He did rock & roll, blues, motown, etc. It was catchy a lot of the time but different enough to not be labeled pure pop. For the most part, Gaga has been pop with obvious inspirations (such as metal or jazz) opposed to mixing genres to the point you can't label her anything. He was more of a chameleon as a musician; she is a chameleon as an artist. It probably helps him that he hung out with so many rock & roll icons, whereas she mainly stays within the pop lane. There's a lot of factors. But I digress. I think it's completely unfair.

Bowie did well in the uk for sure but in the us Bowie didn't really dominate as much as you envisage of his maleness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie_discography
scorpion 409
People will always be envious of what they can't achieve, or were too lazy to work for. Gaga represents talent and hard work. She's a double threat now.... She intimidates people because she raises very real nerves in society...and at times she doesn't take herself seriously at all. The critics will always have something to say regardless of her motives. For those who don't believe in her talent.... Well , have they reached her level of impact and success? Then they can have 100 seats.
MelbHawker 6,583
She'll always have her haters - she could start building houses for poverty stricken families and people who envy her success would still find something about her actions to complain about. It comes with success. It's a sh*t part of celebrity and western culture. We hate those who have bettered us in an aspect of our lives we aren't happy with. Amongst all the hate.. Gaga's probably polishing ha Globe.
kaojen 1,571
Sounds like a youngster thing to me. Or your friends are severely immature. You can't make people like things and sometimes opinions cam be swayed, but why does it matter? Don't worry about them. They are just blinded by preconceived ideas and aren't mature enough to evolve their thinking. In the long run, as long as this continues, she's the winner and they're the losers. They think they're enlightened and more intelligent if they enjoy rock/alternative music. Total b*llshit Nothing wrong with pop music but Gagas music sounds shallow like most pop songs today and thats why shes not taken seriously, not because she sings pop or is a female. This doesnt mean Gagas music is shallow or not art because if you are able to see through it, you will find the complete opposite and how she uses sex, pop and celebrity culture in her music for different reasons.
