North Korea's nuclear test precipitated by incident involving girl popband?

Some American officials, declining to speak on the record, speculated that a dust-up last month over the treatment of an all-female bandthat North Korea sent to Beijing might have so angered Mr. Kim that he ordered the test to go ahead.

Just before the band was supposed to perform, Mr. Kim declared that the North possessed hydrogen bomb technology. The Chinese, with no explanation, downgraded the level of officials scheduled to attend the performance, and the band then headed home without performing.

“I know this sounds like a crazy reason to set off a nuclear test,” one American intelligence official said. “But stranger things have provoked North Korean action.”

The Moranbong band was a form of diplomacy from North Korea and it could be very true that NK was very angered because of this incident, because they wanted to become friends with China again.
