I completely agree with you, but then that makes me think about how much of what she has said is genuine, and how much is basically marketing that she has been pushed to communicate again and again.

For example, the amount of times she's said things like 'I put my bins out in this (crazy/eccentric) clothing' or 'I would rather die than have my fans not see me in heals' or statements about never wearing anything 'normal'. Was that something she genuinely wanted to stick to, or was it what her label wanted?

Then she'd talk for ages about how Gaga is not a character, and that Gaga and Stefani are the same person, and she'd actually get quite frustrated trying to explain that Gaga is who she's always been, yet now she seems to be communicating the opposite

I don't know if she was necicarily saying that for marketing. People grow and change their views on things.

She has done some brilliant things in her career, espeically during that time. However, many things she did back then I can't take too seriosuly because it comes across very gimmicky. Which isn't a bad thing, she had to do waht she dad to do to garner attention and talk. She just seems smuch more authentic these days. This look is one of those things I can't take too seriosuly.

The photoshoot was amazing, though.

But this look is for the photoshoot? The interview is shot on the set of the shoot I remember she explains she worked on it for hours and hadn't slept. So it's not a look on its own, it's a look meant for the photoshoot, and that is were it works well. She just happened to have an interview and no time to shower.

I understand some perceived it as black face therfor rasict, but to me it's obv meant to look overtly tanned, hence the light lips.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

It's one of my least favorites. Looks like she didn't ask her gay friends for advice before getting a spray tan on holiday in tapai

Sis, it looks like she was dragged through the bushes with that weave and she visited a backstreet tanning booth :air:I LOVE IT.

This is my favorite post on this thread.

By the way the look isn't my favorite of hers ever but I still think it's cool. I never once really thought she was being racially ignorant or anything. I used to tan that dark during the summer time when I was younger but that was the sun's fault lol. And that interview is great!

I thought the only reason she looked like this was because she'd literally just done a photoshoot like that?

I thought that look was fine and a little sexy - never realized others had a problem with it.  In the first pic, that was her doing an interview with John Norris - my favorite Gaga interview to date.  She seemed so forthcoming and relaxed and it's been awhile but I remember them talking like old friends, not her just answering questions.  Anyway, the look is cool and different, wild and sensual.

In the 2014 pic she's not tanned as agressive as before

This and TannedGa looks better with black hair than blonde! :wtf:

I love how Monsters are so vehemently opinionated. We don't all think the $ame.

It can be seen as black face, and it could be seen as incensitive. I don't think of it as that, but it's hard to not get that image when a ghost white woman lathers herself in 50 gallons of tanning solution.

Wait so that's a thing now? Brown face?:rip: So basically some people consider tanning "racist". Is this some tumblr crap or a real thing?

Black face/ brown face is a very real thing that's been around since the 1800s. White actors, particularly in the U.S. and U.K., would use black face to mock Black people through racist stereotypes. It has a longstanding negative history and is still today incredibly offensive.

(That's not to say she was doing Black face, but bc of Black face history, this look could be easily misinterpreted and seen as offensive. Just providing context, as you asked a question about it.)
