200,000 Petition Apple about iPhone 7 headphone jack

There have been several unconfirmed reports from various media outlets that Apple is considering dropping the headphone jack in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector in its upcoming iPhone 7. While this rumor - obviously - has not yet been corroborated by Apple, hundreds of thousands of people are already petitioning against dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack in the unannounced iPhone 7.

A petition has started gaining steam on activist site, SumOfUs.org, with over 200,000 people signing "Apple is ditching the standard headphone jack to screw consumers and the planet" petition in less than four days. The petition accuses Apple of ripping off "every one of its customers. Again.", and goes on to list a few statistics to form an argument that dropping the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 will create "mountains of electronic waste -- that likely won't be recycled."

The heated petition further goes on to state that:

"Tell Apple to respect its customers and our planet. Keep the standard headphone jack.

This is right out of the Apple corporate playbook. A few years ago it swapped out the original iPod-dock connector with a new one, making countless cords, cables and chargers obsolete.

Apple plays up its green credentials, but the truth is that Apple only invested in renewable energy, and began phasing out toxic chemicals when public pressure became too strong to ignore. People power did it before, and we can do it again.

Tell Apple to keep the standard headphone jack and ditch planned obsolescence!"

Dude...I think it's a really shitty of Apple to, in a way, force people to buy yet another thing from them (headphones break all the time)...BUT I also think that it's people's fault that this is going on in the first place!

We're all consumers and it should be Apple pulling stuff out of its ass to please us and persuade us into buying their stuff...but it won't happen as long as all these insecure people feel forced to buy apple **** because they think of it as a symbol of status...if people were more willing to try other brands and think of the actual product they're getting, instead of "oh, people will think I'm so cool with this new iPhone", Apple would even consider getting rid of regular headphones jacks...

So, yes, it's also on you (on us, actually...I was a total Apple fanboy for a while)...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I changed my samsung galaxy s3 for an iphone 6 and i really don't regret it. it's really fast, i love the design, imessage and so on. But if they change that... :rip: Like, one of my friends went from an iphone 4 to an iphone 6 and she had to buy like 10 adaptors cause they changed the charging slot and it wasnt working on her speakers, car and so on :saladga:

They've already had to slow production on iPhone 6s due to low sales.

I don't think they'll risk losing more customers to Google.

Dont get me wrong, I still use my iPod Touch 4 and I'm not an Apple hater. But I think this is going too far. We all know its just to make more and more profit.

Taylor Swift would be proud :green:

People don't like change I see.

:green:

But I do understand from a buyer's/user's view.  Apple is obsessed with thin devices, and it's sad to see that the headphone jack is rumored to be replaced in order to achieve a thinner phone, and that's stupid because the iPhone is already thin enough for most users and it's unnecessary to make it thinner.  Replacing the headphone jack and changing it would only cause consumers to spend more money to buy new cables/accessories that are compatible.

Take the new MacBook for example.  They removed all USB slots or whatever and implemented the new USB Type-C and while it is a fantastic change, it was an unnecessary one.  I think that the problem with Apple is that they are trying too hard to be "ahead of the competitors" and setting the "trend" for future devices.  I'm sure in a few years the USB Type-C will become a common feature among computers and other devices, and so would Apple's new headphone jack.  But I don't think Apple consumers are ready for that type of change.

Spoiler

I'm still going to get the iPhone 7 either way though. :derpga:

Apple products have been completely reliable in my experience.  And yes, I have tried other brands such as Samsung, HTC, and LG.

Nope.  Just like music fandoms, people will eat up everything their faves put out.

There are no point with this petition then, but they can try, fight while you can.

As long as Apple supplies the new headphones with the new iPhone then I'm good. I do think that Apple should do something about all the old useless headphones though if they ends up being true.

If it did happen, sales would surely drop unless Apple includes other features that'll compensate for the change, which I doubt.  This is just a rumor though, so I won't be too concerned unless a reliable source/leak surfaces.  Then again, leaks/rumors are usually started by the company itself to see how the public reacts. :deadbanana:

I'm sure they'll include the new headphones.

They should also include new aux cords. :laughga:
