All girl schools? ewwww. Well..... All-boys schools.... that one might not be so bad. That's just more stereotyping. The idea that the school is filled with "catty gays". Good luck with that last part. It was reported recently that youth suicide among LGBT-reported youths is at an all-time high just a few years ago. I doubt it's gotten any better or will for a very long time. In the time being, maybe some lives could be saved or changed for the better by having safer places to be sent for 5 days of the week. The meaning being borderline applicable does not mean the word is appropriate. Also the people who attend this school are not being set apart. They are choosing to be apart. There is a major difference in that. The school isn't lobbying against non-LGBT people nor actively prohibiting their entry either. It's providing LGBT with the choice to be in an environment catered to them. This applies to any type of private school targeting a particular demographic. Edited just now by LebaneseDude. Everyone knows the basics of heterosexual sex and usually, that's all that's taught when it comes to sex. But what about the in the closet lesbian girl or gay boy who doesn't know about the type of sex they're gonna have one day? A school like this could really help with that problem and possibly educate homosexuals on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the gay community (without the negative stereotype which they might hear from their straight friends on the matter). That's a problem with the education system in general (and presumably a bigger problem in America) and needs to be addressed in a different way to 'only educate in hypothetical LGBT-majority schools'. The vast majority of gay children wouldn't even attend those schools; they either wouldn't be in a financial/geographical situation to allow for it, wouldn't want to go to such a school or wouldn't be 'out' to their family to even make it possible to attend (or get parental permission to). Only properly educating those in such a situation is a half-assed solution to the very real problem of poor sex-ed in a lot of schools. FWIW: The bullying reasoning is poor logic too - it'll still go on in LGBT schools; for campness, weight, wealth and most likely sexuality itself too. The idea that LGBT folk are inherently more tolerant is nonsense and even though it's nothing more than anecdote, Alan Carr (the effeminate gay comedian) has admitted that a lot of the homophobic comments he receives comes from within the gay community so removing one source of bullying (from immature straight peers) to potentially replace it with another, probably more damaging source (from your supposed own 'group' of people) is useless too. Obviously students should have freedom of choice to attend though and if it benefits those people, good for them (although it seems pretty expensive, from a foreigner's perspective ). The normal education system doesn't seem to be interested in educating students on how same sex sex works so I don't see the problem is LGBT schools taking on the responsibility. Even if this is only for a small group of LGBT members who can attend these schools, because it's better to educate those few on the matter than have no one educated on it. At least some people should be able to benefit from this school. I also dont think it ridiculous to assume the amount of bullying in regards to sexuslity would be considerably less in that type of schools. And the other things? That will happen anywhere, but it's worse if you're being bullied for all the other stuff and on top of that still being closeteded or bullied for your sexuality. The school is for kids who've struggled in public schools because of bullying, so why would they themselves bully? ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

I think you're missing a very important point. Of course you can't eradicate bullying in its totality but you can reduce it. The amount of LGBT children and teens who have committed suicide because they were harassed by other students is way larger than teens who have committed suicide because they were discriminated for their race, weight and economic background. While they can't prevent future altercations between the students, they can ensure that complaints are addressed properly unlike public schools where it always depends of how the teachers feel about LGBT issues. Bullying is likely to happen between LGBT people but harassment and crimes perpetrated by LGBT folks to other LGBT folks where discrimination is the motivation is very unlikely and almost non existent compared to the harassment and hate crimes perpetrated by straight cis people towards LGBT people. Well true that I didn't consider the element of suicide rates so yeah I'm admittedly jumping to conclusions on that one I guess in the context of limiting LGBT teen suicides it'll have some benefits then, but what is the actual likelihood of the very people most likely to commit suicide actually being in the position to benefit? I still think the wider solution is to sort out the messiness of public schools rather than excusing how **** the system is.

That should be the main focus but sadly is something that's going to take at least another generation and I worry about the children and teens who are gonna have to go through horrible things without finding justice at their schools. I don't think every LGBT kid who goes through bullying should enroll in this school but I think a many trans teens who are going through transition would be better in this school where teachers are aware of their transition and involved in their development.
