Being LGBT (or not LGBT) is not like being a wizard, it shouldn't give you any preferences.

But this is not about chances or fairness. If your child is LGBT and you want him/her to be in that school you're gonna have to enroll him/her on that school and pay a tuition because it's a private school. It's just like any other private school that only accepts people based on gender or religion.

Oh, nevermind, I just read “though the school is open to any student who believes they’re not getting the support they need for “being different,””, so I guess they would accept straight siblings as well.

OP: All gays schools will help foster leadership opportunities, networking and better education for gay excellence. As an oppressed marginal group (lets get real; life isn't GagaDaily dot com); they'll need all the help they can get. Gay youth should have the opportunity available to join schools like these if they so wish. No one's forcing them to go there but options should be available. Constantly getting jammed into oppressive, careless heterosexual bigot schools should not be the only choice for gay youth and their parents. 

How stupid is your comment... After reading the comments here Majority of people here think this a bad idea. Your one of very few who think this is a good idea. Your telling people how gays need help and are going through some  sh** and you just told one of your own to "Leave the gay community we dont want you" because he disagrees with you? It's going to take a long time until some LGBT students are not scared to go to school, specially in conservative states/towns. So I don't see what's wrong with "segregating" them for their safety and mental health.

It's cool that many gay teens and children are willing to go to school like every other kid without fear of being harassed but think about trans children and teens. Not even gay people support them sometimes. 

In my opinion having a place where trans and queer students can study without having to deal with assholes all the time is a great idea. They deserve to have a good education and sadly public schools can't offer them that.

I believe this also and am interested in what becomes of this idea. It holds both bad and good points, but when it comes down to right now and you have very troubled young people who can not get their education right now, because of bullying and harassment, time to act and keep them in school is Now and this idea can serve that purpose and keep them involved in their lives and able to focus and grow without all of the hate and hassle ruining their education and causing a toxic self esteem that takes over all aspects of their lives while it keeps growing and overpowering due to other peoples judgment and selfish ugly hate.

Let us see what becomes of this.

Yes, I do believe that the LGBT+ community shouldn't have hide and try to segregate themselves from the world but I also believe that when your environment is toxic for you to the point where it becomes threatening the best thing to do is to search for help, asylum and protection from people who understand and care for you, usually from people who are like you.

LGBT neighborhoods have served the exact same purpose for years. They usually make people who are different feel safe from people who may want to hurt them. 

It's sad and unfair but in real life not everyone cares if a bunch of kids beat you up because you are gay or trans. Sometimes even parents would not do anything.

After all I think it's a good IDEA for teens and children who can't get justice after they have been harassed and treated unfairly by their classmates and school.

That's very nice, but isn't that running away from the problem instead of fixing it? If kids are getting bullied at school what teachers should do is try to express tolerance and educate them about equality and respect. 

But I'm ok with it, because I know that it's not easy to be LGBT, specially if you are very young. If my kid is going to suffer because people is making fun of him for his sexual orientation, I'd prefer him to go to a private LGBT school, if that is going to make him happy.

How is this preferencial? Did you read the article? THIS SCHOOL IS BEING OPENED BECAUSE LGBT+ PEOPLE DON'T FEEL AND ARE NOT SAFE IN PUBLIC SCHOOL AND ARE NOT BEING TEACHED SEXUAL EDUCATION USEFUL FOR THEM.

Attending an all-boys or all-Catholic school is not being segregated  Liberals need to stop overusing incendiary words just for the sake of shock factor. Kinda like conservatives calling everyone who disagrees with them Hitler

Screaming. 

Heteros really think the entire world revolves around them. Tons of all-hetero schools exist (i.e. to the point that gay history, sex education, activities, clubs, etc. aren't offered in them and gay people practically don't exist). Like, you can't even go to the school dances and if the school is run by some liberals maybe you can but you still feeling safe there is a whole different question. 

It's just an option. Nobody is forcing anybody to go there. LGBT people should have options; that's a part of being included in society.

Running away from the problem? You really think you can stop bullying/homophobia with the snap of your fingers? Until you do, lets have some other options available. That sounds like a nice idea.
