I know we can all joke about them being 'mentally ill' as the media treats white terrorists, but surely the media cannot call this anything else but terrorism.

I mean the first definition Google gives for terrorism: "the unofficial or unauthorized use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims."

I mean they have taken over a federal building and are threatening violence if their terms are not met. Plus there is a group of them, it can hardly be dismissed as a "mentally ill, lone wolf" type thing.

What's interesting is what they're doing with their guns is exactly what many pro-gun people support; using them to protect yourself against the government, forming a citizen's militia to stand up against an (allegedly) unfair government. 

The criticisms raised in this thread are totally legitimate- if this were a group of muslims, mexicans, or black people doing the exact same thing, they would be met with force and people judging their entire race. But this will not be used to represent white people, they will not be used to inspire fear, and people will continue to ignore the fact that majority of terrorist attacks that have occurred on US soil have been white, christian, right-wing men.
