Is this Gaga selfie channeling Kylie Minogue?

It's what I thought immediately when I saw it. Not intentional though. I doubt she really cares enough about passing Instagram posts to invoke early 2000s music videos.

Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?

Whether this look has anything to do with Kylie Minogue -- who knows! But I do think it's important to note that Gaga admittedly replicates the looks/styles/sounds of all the pop acts who have come before her. She's been doing this since day 1 with the David Bowie lightning bolt on her face and the Grace Jones hoods. And clearly making no attempt to "fool" anyone... she obviously wants the inspiration to be recognizable.

I believe Gaga does this for many reasons, partially as an homage to these artists, but most importantly as "reference points" to all the greats who have done pop music before her. She's pointing us (her fans) toward the past so that we better understand the evolution of popular culture, music and entertainment. Her entire career has been like a living pop music history lesson, in many regards. Which is an art form in itself.

Never heard of any of those. lmao

I thought this was going to be Kylie Jenner related and about Gaga's lips. :smh: I miss the days when I first saw "Kylie" and my mind would automatically go to Minogue.

Anyway, I don't think it's intentional, lol. Cute comparison for us to look at, but I highly doubt it.

OT, but Kylie related: I recently listened to this and would love it if Gaga delivered a track like this even though she seems to be over electronic voice flourishes. The beat is very sexy in a hypnotic Heavy Metal Lover kind of way:

I read this interview with Fernando yesterday and it made me love him more and more... He has a deep reverence for his divas. Kylie AND Gaga! Link: http://www.idolator.com/7610191/behind-boards-fernando-garibay-interview-collaborations-kylie-minogue-lady-gaga

I also miss the "electronic vocal flourishes" of Gaga's early songs. It fit sooooo well with the music. Selfishly, I crave more of that early sound. When she wasn't trying to prove vocal talent, but simply make irresistibly addicting electronic dance pop. I 100% support her "vocal powerhouse" persona she has today, but I'm dying for more tunes like "Monster," "So Happy I Could Die" and "Lovegame."

Yeah, same. I'd be here for vocal diva Gaga, but at the same time electronic vocals just work so well with this type of electro music at times. I've always loved that even though Gaga could sing, she never boxed herself in as a ~vocalist~. That said, we do know she's not against robotic vocals as long as they make sense for the song stylistically (hence her praise for Imogen Heap), it's a balanced view, so I'm hopeful we'll still get this type of grimy, aural, electronic sex in her pop music later on.

I remember reading this comment online recently regarding her jazz music and moving into acting, and this person was like (I'm paraphrasing), "I hope she continues to pursue more high minded ventures because she's too talented to be grinding around half naked on stage to electronic beats." I was like, "but I like that side of her too.":awkney: I wonder if she feels conflicted or feels pressure now to show off her voice after C2C. As far as I'm concerned she has nothing to prove regarding her vocal talent after that Oscars performance - that was a definite mic drop moment to anyone who was still claiming she can't sing or can't own a stage without "gimmicks". After an era of being the Lady, I'm here for the Gaga the uncompromising, unabashed pop artist. I don't think she should care anymore about what people perceive of her when it comes to all that. She's the best of both worlds. Bringing it back to Kylie, she too is an artist that can sing beautifully (as Abbey Road Sessions proved), but she seems to set out to make the best pop and electro music she can make, and going back further, you had Donna Summer who seemed to display this philosophy too.
