ARTPOP was really THAT bad?

99.9% of musicians could only dream of having an album and era as big as ARTPOP, though!

People are crazy.

Great album I love the music. Disappointing era though she just hyped it to much then bad things started occurring plus a mid era blackout.

Just like anybody would like to be millionaire. But for A-class popstar it was not big.

Yeah but who actually cares in the long run of pop culture about one of her albums only doing just as good as her peers' when Gaga will be considered a much more influential talent and legend than Katy Perry?

(I'm using Katy as an example because you just mentioned her team)

This statement (in bold) is why I believe ARTPOP will ultimately still "matter" in the long run. Gaga's catalog is going to be listened to/studied/explored/dissected for generations to come (and she knows that). And there ARTPOP will be, sitting alongside her greatest achievements. It will be revered in time.

Not to mention....My listening habits as they stand today:

When I play 'The Fame' I skip tons of tracks; listening mostly to the singles.
When I play 'The Fame Monster' I let it play non-stop, but it's only 8 songs.
When I play 'Born This Way' I only play about 5 songs.
When I play 'ARTPOP' I play it start to finish, and then repeat. Again and again. It's addicting.

I can name a few!

Tove Lo - Queen of the Clouds

Allie X - COLLXTION I

BANKS - Goddess

Marina and The Diamonds - FROOT

and etc.

ARTPOP is a disaster in production while all these albums mostly have no faults in production, don't sound... I don't really know how to put it without saying basic so I guess "cheap", and sound really fresh while being electronic (besides FROOT kind of).

Even Allie X produced all the songs on her album while Gaga tried one song and it turned into a cringey disaster. :air: Of course the last part is my opinion but I know other people who aren't Gaga fans who also don't really like the song much.

ARTPOP has some bops but even those select few still have bad production. The album is decent but don't let the talent we all know Gaga has blind you from not so great quality of the album.

Edit: Plus the fact you have to defend the album with versions of songs that weren't even on the album is really bad.

Dope's production alone blows away any of the songs in the albums mentioned above

Gurl, that production is literally a piano, a shitty bass synth that doesn't belong in the song at all, reverb, and echo. The song is okay but it's the worst example to show how "good" the production is on ARTPOP because it barely has any production to it. :air:

I love Dope, but agree that the production was nothing noteworthy.

I think the finest example of production on ARTPOP was "G.U.Y." ... Not my favorite track overall, but the production and mixing are like an orgasm of glitter and fireworks.

Simplistic is shitty? :air:

A beautifully played piano, a fantastic bass synth that doesn't belong in the song at all but actually manages to sound like a part of it as it sounds rough (it completely "fleshes out" the lyrical content of the song), gives it a very fresh sound, and the reverb/echo.

Although in my original comment here I was talking about the overall songs, AP has much more going in it on the production side. DWUW, Aura, Applause's instrumental is almost infectious, SD and even songs that I don't personally like, such as Donatella, MJH, Swine, Fashion or G.U.Y., have solid instrumentals. The vocal filtering could be so much better in the songs that have it but it is ok.

I will say that the lyrical content is underwhelming in most of the songs though.

I think I'd love the song way more without the bas synth but yeah exactly, there isn't much to it's production.

I agree. The production on that song is pretty good though it makes me wonder if Zedd also mastered it or not. He produced Donatella but it was before they even worked together. It's not mastered very well and in the last chorus, the vocals are super loud and you can even see it in Audacity.

Basically I just think a lot of the songs were also not mastered well.
