I didn't mention her aesthetic.. what makes you think personality is appearance? What a bizarre thing to say.

But since you mentioned her aesthetic, she's plain as hell.

There is nothing special about her. She's known for annoying music, she has no personality, she's not particularly good looking and she doesn't perform particularly well.

Where is her USP? Why should anyone have any interest in her? There's no reason.

Did you even listen to her damn album? :emma: "She is known for annoying music"...She is actually known for 1 damn song..You can't judge an artist based on 1 song.... Gaga could have declined after Just Dance.. Would that mean that she can't just write anything more than a fun pop song? No.. Her album got a huge critical acclaim, more than 75 on metacritic and it's actually amazing and underrated

Nobody cares. As far as anyone is concerned she had a novelty hit and a failed comeback with another annoying song.

Metacritic means nothing BTW. Just in case you're under the misconception that it's someway regulated.

Gaga didn't decline after just dance because she had a string of chart ready songs lined up and performed during every waking hour. Carly is more cut out for... There really is no market for her.

It's not Carly's fault that her manager releases all the average songs in order to make hits..And i am sure than metacritic is more important than your opinion :emma:

I wouldn't worry about them too much, this is coming from someone who claims that Beyonce is a lackluster performer who can barely dance and just goes through the motions and doesn't know the lyrics to her own song despite being shown extraordinary, extensive evidence to the contrary :green:

Just saying, they dont necessarily have a history of backing up their beliefs, it mostly seems to be for the point of shock and controversy or probably even trolling to some extent (I hope :laughga: )

Honestly, Carly is STILL collecting royalties from Call Me Maybe, which has sold almost 20 million copies WW and is the best selling digital single of all time, so I'm not worried. She has the freedom to basically make any album of her choosing now, just do what she wants and take her time, and clearly it lets artists make fantastic albums such as this. Scooter was looking for a rebranding (for the future maybe) and critical acclaim and they definitely accomplished that in my book. It's a fantastic album and one of my favorite "pop" albums of all time, and one of the best of 2015. I remember defending the HELL out of it back when it came out in Japan and everyone on this site (and others, like atrl :rip: ) was SO convinced that "this music is basic and Carly Rae will always be a one hit wonder" :air: I have been promoting the HELL out of this album to everyone I know and not a single person has been like "eh, it sucked" or anything negative  My Mom stans the HELL out of Gimmie Love and my family slow jams to "All That" together in the car and we trade off singing it :flutter: Glad to see more have come around though too :flutter:

Spoiler

Though tbh I've been hardcore stanning CRJ since 2012 with Kiss

*EDIT like #5* Also, I see someone is back to the forums more often :green:

I think a lot of it had to do with her management (Scooter) and her lead single (I Really Like You).

With Scooter, he's managing quite a few people. So his priorities among who he's managing is cray
JB- we all know how good his comeback was
Ariana- trying to let out new material, and covering up her insolence :laughga:
CL- a star that is yet to debut :saladga:
And then Carly :derpga:

The single is cute and all, but so was Call Me Maybe. And you know how people are, they use the lead single to judge the entire album or the artist, which prevents people to actually listen to their material.

Contrary to popular opinion in online forums,

her album isn't really that good or much of a progress from her other one before.

She was only popular because of the viral phenomenon of the leading single.

But that viral single thing is not happening twice.

But being in Top 20 is still decent imho.

It really sucks that it didn't properly send off tbh. The album is beyond amazing. I got to see her at a private show over the summer and she sounded great live, was just really kind and sweet, and the whole experience was just super fun. I feel like I Really Like You maybe wasn't the best choice for a lead single. Although it's super catchy and just a fun song, to me it kind of has that same feel that Call Me Maybe had. Which is fine, but for a lead single to a new album, there should be something more fresh and mature sounding? If that all makes sense?

To me, this album should have had more praise and shine. Some people might think her music is annoying because of repetition, but idk. I just personally don't see her or her music that way. I believe she's just a fun artist. Shy and humble, but she has this underlying bubbly personality that does show in her music, and I think the world needs more of that.

Id like to class myself as 'The GP'  when it comes to Carly as I don't keep up with her and haven't even listened to the album however the problem was her lead single was exactly the same repetitive teen pop as Call Me Maybe so off the bat I dismissed her latest efforts because she didn't seem like shed developed as an artist.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

So is Taylor Swift. Your point?

I would place money on it that you've never seen Taylor Swift live

"Emotion" is my favorite song tied with "I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance". I think the former could do well if released.

You should give her a try. Clearly the relatively large online and pretty much agreed upon critical reception is testament to the fact that EMOTION is indeed a far progression of her as an artist and that the lead single was incredibly misleading :green:

Promotion. It's the name of the game. Her label clearly don't think she's bankable enough to warrant the money being spent on her. It's a real shame how some artists are treated better than others and promotion is prioritised only to those who stand a chance of having a hit. A label only has so much money to spend, so of course some artists will have to lose out and the focus is all on getting the most sales from the bankable ones to keep the label going. So, that means promo for the big names, no luck for the smaller names. I don't get why a label wouldn't want to promote such a hit album waiting to happen, though. It's like buying a Ferarri and then keeping it in the garage. And we wonder why one hit wonders remain that way? Such a pity as the album is better than a lot of recent pop efforts and a lot better than the supposed best pop album in years, 1989. But Taylor has the hype and promo and that automatically means she's better, in the superficial public's eyes. Think of all the masterpieces that are lurking underneath the surface that no one gets to appreciate because the labels don't try hard enough. Think how much it would throw our best of the year lists into disarray if we knew.
