JDi 1,495 Posted January 2, 2016 Share Posted January 2, 2016 old folk British aside, it's an insane lady we're talking about, right? so, there's this: the album's name is a pun on 'A lad(d) insane'. an insane lad. then, there's Lady Starlight. stage name inspired by Bowie's song Lady Stardust. then, there are the stories about how Gaga got her name around the time she met Lady Starlight. then, there was the lightning bolt and a vinyl of Bowie's Let's Dance in the Just Dance music video. then, in one of the earliest Gagavision episodes she tells us "a life without Bowie is a life not lived". lighting bolt remains present on her face for most of 2008 as an essential aesthetic to her act. she gets big. lightning bolt disappears. Bowie stops being the answer to "who inspires you?". when asked about Bowie during the 2010 Jonathan Ross interview, she becomes very uncomfortable, stuttering for 2 minutes and telling him Bowie is for her "like... you know"? then, in 2011 while talking about being Born This Way, she mentions listening to Aladdin Sane on vinyl in her Brooklyn apartment as some sort of catalytic moment and true artistic birth. ...then, there's all the times she told us her friends used to call her ga-ga for being theatrical... like she used to live in East London and anyone would call her that. so, that Oprah gif. Kayla 7,595 Posted January 2, 2016 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Are you trying to expose something about Gaga's Bowie inspirations by pointing out things that seem like contradictions but in reality are just different ways in which she's referenced/talked about Bowie throughout the parts of her career/life we've seen? Also, people calling her "ga ga" isn't a reference to Bowie. It's A) a reference to the actual word "ga-ga," and B) a reference to the Queen song. The guy is alive and not working with her and she's just yammering on about him and wearing his symbols indefinitely? Nah, she included him as an inspiration as much as she wanted and then slowly let that jacket drop off her shoulders. Makes sense to me.
