Merkel: Refugees are positive to Germany

"Chancellor Angela Merkel in her New Year’s address Thursday asked Germans to see a record refugee influx as “an opportunity for tomorrow” and urged doubters not to follow racist hate-mongers.

The past year - when the top EU economy took in over one million asylum seekers - had been unusually challenging, she said in a pre-released text of the speech, also bracing Germans for more hardships ahead.

But she stressed that in the end it would all be worth it because “countries have always benefitted from successful immigration, both economically and socially”.

With a view to right-wing populists and xenophobic street rallies, she said “it’s important we don’t allow ourselves to be divided”.

“It is crucial not to follow those who, with coldness or even hatred in their hearts, lay a sole claim to what it means to be German and seek to exclude others.”

Merkel has earned both praise and criticism at home and abroad for her decision to open Germany to a record wave of refugees, about half from war-torn Syria.

Germany took in almost 1.1 million asylum seekers this year, five times last year’s total, the Saechsische Zeitung regional daily reported Wednesday citing unpublished official figures.

Merkel, faced with opposition in her conservative camp and popular concerns about the influx, has vowed steps to reduce numbers next year.

Her plan involves convincing other EU members to take in more refugees, so far with little success, and an EU deal with gateway country Turkey to better protect its borders.

Merkel said that “there has rarely been a year in which we were challenged so much to follow up our words with deeds”.
She thanked volunteers and police, soldiers and administrators for their “outstanding” accomplishments and “doing far, far more than their duty”.

“I am convinced,” she said, “that, handled properly, today’s great task presented by the influx and the integration of so many people is an opportunity for tomorrow.”

She urged Germans to be “self-confident and free, humanitarian and open to the world”.

Amid the world’s greatest refugee wave since World War II, she said, “it goes without saying that we help and accommodate people who seek safe haven with us”.

The speech will be broadcast at 1815 GMT on ZDF public television and then online with English and Arabic subtitles."

Merkel has some liberal fool ways of thinking since there are over 380,000 homeless Germans so she could have wipe out the homelessness in Germany by now by giving them free housing, food and healthcare, but now those housings and any entry-level jobs will go to those 1 million refugees (but they can't speak German so they will have a very hard time finding a job so they will be on public assistance for a very long time).

The tents are only use 5 days of the years for the hajj so they can be used to house the refugees the other 360 days. Is Saudi Arabia playing smart by not taking in any refugee to save BILLIONS of $ and let Europe waste their resources instead? They are the home of Mecca and Mina, so is this an example of generosity and kindness they want to show the world?

Immigration and Germany's homelessness are RELATED!! There is only so much housing and money to give out in Germany, so when they give 100,000 free housing to the immigrants that mean 100,000 German homeless can not be housed. I'm not hiding behind anything, I'm just showing the fact that Merkel and her liberal fool way is costing 380,000 German homeless some free housing because she could just order the free housing to those people than order the entrance of 1 million immigrants. For the Fatherland FIRST!

Do you also account for homeless immigrants that are ****ed by the system because they can't qualify for help from the government and have to stay in the streets? You talk as if Germany should solve their homeless problem first and welcome immigrant, if they did what you do they would have a lot more homeless because get a map and realise that desperate refugees will still come. You know why? Because the EU decided to split in two the money support they were giving to refugees camp in te Middle East and so refugees can't survive there anymore nor can they stay in Syria. You seem to think that homelessness is a housing problem only when it's not just that: lack of skills to get a descent job, addictions, personal issues that led to be out in the streets, so giving a flat can help but it won't solve everything. There are separate solution for homeless people. Also back in France this year at least half of the homeless I passed by where foreigners, what about them should they be helped?

I'm agnostic but I think the Christians are more peaceful than the Islamic religion. I like the way America is right now with no sharia law and women don't have to wear hijabs to cover themselves.  

If Jesus come back, He is the KING and no one can kick him out because he is God and All Powerful so no one would dare. 

Halal meat is so outdated because it don't allowed the animal to be stunned before they slit its throat and let it bleed to death slowly. Modern method of stunbolt gun will killed the cow instantly so there's no suffering so people should just stay away from halal meat just for the cruelty of it. So you are agnostic but Jesus is the King....ok right... I can't believe you say Christianism is more peaceful than Islam. In both there are violent people , just think about the crusades, inquisition, imposing reigion on others (just look at Africa), they Church played a big part in slavery, and just talk to the natives that were sent to religious boarding school it's a scandal! And just nowadays KKK still exists, I won't even start with the Westborough Church. 2 years ago in France I had to face the hatred of thousands of homophobes in the streets using Christianism as an excuse for their bigotry. The few times I had to face homophobia from religious people it was from Christians so excuse me but telling Christians are more peaceful is a joke to me. I have always been in cities with a big Muslim community, how come not even once they came to impose Sharia law on me? Because it can't happen! I know that the US is built on Christianism after eradicating a culture that was excisting prior to them (but this you don't seem to question it...) but also that it's a secular state so you can't force someone to follow your culture and religion and they can't do it either. No one is forcing to wear a hijab. I have friends who wear hijabs they aren't pushing it down my throat. If the US wants to preserve its culture what about Hassidic Jews do you feel the same? Cause it's not the mildest form of Judaism, or would it be antisemitic? I mean just replace the word Muslim by any other minority or religion and you will realize how racist you sound and that by law it is legal to be Muslim and to eat halal meat or wear a hijab in the US because of secularism all religion should be treated equally that you like it or not and the good news is that in return no one can force you to go to a halal butcher or wear a hijab. I mean your argument are like when straight people are against gay marriage, if you don't like it don't do it.
