It still sold more than the vast majority of albums released that year, and it's a great record and it has had lasting impact! There are so many times in history that an artist has released a truly worthy album only to have it labeled as a flop because it didn't sell as well as a previous album by the same artist. That's is a broken and ridiculous definition of "flop". It's only a flop if you truly believe that ARTPOP was one of the worst albums released by ANY artist that year. Otherwise, Gaga deserves credit for the fact that her "worst" still does better than most artist's best. I don't even think ARTPOP was the worst, it's one of my favs! I'm mad that the quality of the work wasn't on the same level as the constant praise it got before it was released. ARTPOP could have been so much more, but it ended up being her flattest album. Too much pop trying to pass as art that it got to the point of pretentiousness. It's not a coincidence that people think she's pretentious; that's how she came off the entire BTW to ARTPOP era. Sorry. Her fans didn't help the case either, it's cool if you like the album, but there's only so much you can do to defend an album that is widely seen as a fizzled attempt. You get to a point at which you just become delusional and start saying things such as "ARTPOP is too complicated for you to get" when in reality there is nothing complicated about it, or "ARTPOP is the best album of all the time fux the less0rs" when ARTPOP is not even close to being that great of an album. That's not to say that the entire album was bad. Tracks like ARTPOP, G.U.Y, and DWUW were great. Everything else was either cute or just didn't deserve another listen.
