yASSsss 35,510
“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,” he told the title for its December/January issue. “If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f***, so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling. I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me. It was music that was already given to us, and we were told this is what is going to sell to these people. As much as we were the biggest, most famous boy band in the world, it felt weird. We were told to be happy about something that we weren’t happy about.” Read More: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6814155/zayn-malik-direction-generic-simon-cowell?utm_source=twitter Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine
Voltaire 4,531
It's like working for McDonald's and wondering why they don't want your chef's input on the Big Mac. Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker

Didymus 34,380
lol at him trying to gain sympathy from this. They all knew what they were getting into and they sure enjoyed the benefits long enough. Reminds me of Gaga trying to save herself by claiming she'd go right back to singing in bars if she ever had to change herself a few weeks after she blamed her manager for suffocating her artistically. But the gays and teenage girls won't think that far, I guess, so good for him.

Not like anyone would care at all after all, there are very small chances that a member (or more) would write songs for their group, nowadays, at least the popular ones
