Economy 52,844
http://www.ucsusa.org/clean_energy/our-energy-choices/coal-and-other-fossil-fuels#.VnTRQuzEjv4 COAL! So Coal produces 50% to 60% more CO2 emissions per unit of energy than crude oil. Relative to Natural Gas (the cleanest of the fossil fuels) it looks even worse Coal is still the worlds #1 source of electricity and it may surprise some people to know that more pollution is made globaly from Coal than from crude oil. It is surprising Coal gets less attention from environmentalists than Crude Oil especially since the things we use Coal for (electricity) is easier to replace with alternatives than the things we use oil for (transportation and countless manufacturing of products) I think our focus on climate change should be to target Coal first. I think it tends to be overlooked for whatever reason.

Luc 4,776
Biggest friend of global warming, our biggest enemy :sis: I agree, but I think coal gets enough attention, even more surprising (to me) was how polluting cows are, especially considering methane is a lot more effective in warming the earth than carbon dioxide is. Huge forest parts continue to be used for cows and other animals. The dairy industry is crazy; us consuming milk and beef is damaging our planet and it's only a question of time until we realize that the amount of milk we are producing is ridiculously high. I wish there was an alternative to cow milk.

At least not anytime soon. The human body isn't made for cow milk, but that didn't stop our ancestors from introducing it to our race. It's a shame that so many cows have to live under terrible conditions and rainforests are slowly going extinct because of our need to eat and drink. I think it was commercialized for economic reasons scince cows produce so much more than most animals But i have digestion issues. Cow milk bugs me, but i do just fine with goat milk which is easier to digest!!!!

Oh yeah. I saw on TV once that to transport cows on a ship they needed very strong ventilators or they would toxicy themselves to death in mere minutes Back on Coal, It does get attention but im surprised it gets less attention than oil in fact when we talk about reducing oil consumption people will say "build wind mills or solar panels". I dont think most people even realize we dont use much crude oil for electricity but the main fossil fuel for electricity is Coal. Natural Gas is the #2 most used. I think oil is harder to eliminate anyway. Cause Coal basically is just for electricity and we have better alternatives now Oil on the otherhand how do we stop using it? Electric cars maybe. But heavier forms of transportation like trucks and airplanes for thefireseeable future will need it. And how about the endless oil based products: asphalt, shingles, fertilizers, pesticides, tires, plastics, paints beauty products... The list goes on and on I think focusing on getting rid of Coal first is more critical and more realistic tbh. Environmentalists have heart in right place but i think sometimes they dont think every detail through
