Sanders Has Record Setting Week! / Killer Mike

Hot on the heels of the Communication Workers of America's 700,000 members voting to back Sanders (Source), Bernie set some records/firsts:

 

Bernie Sanders is now the first presidential candidate in U.S. history to receive 2 million individual contributions this early in the race! Obama had set a record in 2008 of 1 million, but even then it was 1 month later during the Iowa vote. Bernie beat the record by double.

 

Finishing out these achievements, the DFA or Democracy for America (the million-member strong democratic political action committee) has officially endorsed Bernie Sanders. The DFA requires a candidate to earn at least 67% of the vote in order to be endorsed, and in their entire history- no candidate has managed it before. Bernie Sanders is unlike any candidate, so his achievement of 87.9% of the verified and cross checked votes is astronomical but increasingly becoming expected. Source

Slay Bernie Sanders! I like him. Although I'm currently at Dallas airport and was watching the news on one of the screens and it said that he was like in trouble or something? Like he was spying DNC or something like that idk. I don't know anything about American politics

The DNC has a 3rd party company that provides them with stats for each campaign and such. On multiple occasions, the company has failed to keep each campaign from being able to see each other's data. This time, a staffer (or staffers) from the Bernie campaign looked at the available information through a simple search. He was fired. So at this time, the DNC has suspended access to his entire campaign to the system.

No comments on why the system opened up each campaign to one another so far.

Either way, its a bummer and a minor setback.

He's so smart and fair...I really hope he gets a fair shot in the presidential race. I'm here for Clinton as well, but Bernie is so practical and honest and I agree with so much of what he says......and he looks like Larry David, one of my favorite comedians of all time, which helps

I dont believe in Sosicalism

-I dont think health care is a right

-I dont think College education is a right

-I dont think its fair to tax the rich at 80%

- I dont think its the riches problem or responsibility to pay for all these programs. Its not there falt we are in debt 20 trillion its the US congress and Presidents (Current and former) Which he is a part of.

 

I work 3 jobs to pay for my apartment and school. its no ones responsibility but my own. And to say people cant get an education because of money is false.

First, I appreciate your response. And I understand it, I just don't agree with it.

I was raised very "old fashioned" by parents and a family that were the first generation of any wealth they achieved. I didn't get hand outs in the classical sense: was expected to always have a job (started formally at 14) always paid for my own phone, bought my first and every other car, paid for my own education, moved out at 18 and paid 100% of my own bills and have ever since.

I appreciate hard work and what it means to a person's character and development.

Where we disagree, I can respect, but we simply do indeed disagree.

I do think that healthcare should be a right. I believe that health and the ability to access healthcare at an affordable price is an important aspect of a functional and engaged society- especially when we have the ability to do so without excess burden on ANY specific portion of society.

I think that a functioning education at the level of modern society is important and should be provided in the same way that k-12 VERY successfully was, as well as public libraries. We simply disagree.

Bernie hasn't released a tax rate, but he has stated that it will be less than Eisenhower's rate. He has repeatedly stated that he is not against a nation with wealth or a nation that makes many successful products, he's just against the idea of a nation that does not first secure a societal "floor" for its citizens. Very logical. Personally, I appreciate this because as a business owner, I don't want great wealth at the expense of others. I would want my wealth knowing that even the smallest and least advantaged has the basics to function in modern society.

And for your last point: The rich have benefited from trillions in corporate subsidies and tax breaks. Companies and the wealthy are supported in a variety of ways to allow them to become more wealthy. I am not against this, but I AM against it while we have the highest rate of childhood poverty in the developed world. The wealthy do not need my help or support: they are educated and have economic powers that will allow them to fight for themselves (and with teams of lawyers). The people that do need help, are being fought for by people like Bernie, and what is he fighting for? Healthcare, education, equality, and the ability to earn enough to fully function in society. A single mother that has to work 2 or more jobs to support her kids does not fully function in society, and her kids don't get a mother to raise them.

I think it's admirable you work 3 jobs. I respect the work ethic, and I know what it means to work for a living. I am voting for a society that says that you can study in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, work one job, and have time to be a human being in the process.

That opinion is easy to understand.

The first thing I'd say to that is: Bernie has 20 years of voting records to show he is one of the most accomplished Senators in getting amendments passed. He also has massive BI-partisan support in his home state. In that, he's already different than Obama who had very little history to source as proof of his effectiveness.

The second thing, is that he openly says at every speech stop that he CANNOT do it alone, as no one can. He openly states that all of his positions ultimately require the support of an engaged population. He wants more people to engage, be educated, and vote- even if against him. That is admirable.

 

As for the "bandwagon"- of course people are attracted to a man like Bernie. It's like complaining that people like Gaga for her talent.

Ty for being kind and agreeing to disagree. Its hard these days when talking politics. We have alot of similaritys. I started working at 14 also and by 18 was an independent.

We already have medicare and Medicaid for poor and elderly. I do think we should expand this program when it comes to disabled. They are the only people I feel should be taken care of fully.

When it comes to education. There are so many Grants, Scholarships, Loans that any poor family can get subsidized education. I dont get any kinds of grants or scholarships based on grades because my parents make to much money. Which is a sin because my parents dont pay for anything, Don't clam me on taxes, and im a full independent since I was 18. That system should be fixed. 

You brought up equality. While I thought Democrats were more of a party of ethnic diversity I have come to think they are just more devisive. Obama was supposed to be a uniting president but race relations in this country are at a 40 year low being 60% of people think race relations are not good. I truly think the Dem party uses people or color and other minority to pander for votes. especially after the last 8 years.

When it comes to taxing I belive in a flat tax 15-20% across the income board no loop holes. I live In NYC. I pay almost 40% taxs by the time I see my checks and I dont make much money obviously. I probably would have 1 or 2 jobs if it wasent for all the taxes. In the most democratic state in the country how do expect people to pay 40%? Thats why I dont trust him or democrats when it comes to taxs. They say tax cuts on poor but its not happening.

It is nice, and it's so much easier to find commonalities.

I'll highlight the piece on education, because I agree with you. The great thing about the system as it is, is that it already costs the Federal government around 66 BILLION dollars a year to pay for all those federal grants etc. The current annual cost of all public university tuition? 70 BILLION. Very close. The problem is very fixable and could create an opportunity for the focus of education to shift from "where is the money" to "where is the brains and work ethic". That's the focus I want to see education take. This levels it completely. It no longer is about being "poor enough" or "family makes too much" it simply becomes "are you willing and able".
