It's why people praised her.. and it's why the public abandoned her when she stopped trying to engage the world. I'd say it did service to herself and the whole music industry just fine. She was a living commentary, a bigger than life public figure who extended the idea of performance far beyond any bounds other pop artists (even Madonna) had clung to. That's impressive. Far more impressive than saying she's just like everyone else. Talk about inhibiting.. Didy, I get all that. I get what it did for her, and I get why she did it. Strictly as a performer, though, I felt it was inhibiting, and it (to me) read as blatantly artificial and, therefore, distracting. To reiterate, I appreciate its place in her career/legacy, but it wasn't an approach that I cared for.

I was neutral during The Fame, more intrigued during The Fame Monster, and I became a full-blown fan during Born This Way. And to address a point you made earlier, from my perspective, the public abandoned her because her imagery and songs became harsher and more grotesque and controversial. So if anything, she was shunned for sticking to her guns. I'd like to think she wouldn't have had it any other way.

It doesn't explain why TFM (album + era) and its singles were so successful and, actually, BTW didn't have much "grotesque" and "controversial" to offer. ARTPOP, on the other hand, was a "return" (in your perspective) to lighter imagery and it's her least successful era of all so that doesn't make sense either. SlaeUrAnus 15,955
This made me tear up for real. I got an overwhelming sense of nostalgia that threw me back to my school days when life was great and I was free! She was a free spirit then - laid back, very creative and had the world at her feet. I miss FameGa too, but in all honesty, I miss MonsterGa and BTWGa the most. In my messy era.

I became a fan during ARTPOP and during The Fame era I found her intriguing but I could see that the whole era was very limiting in terms of what she had to offer as a performer and artist. TFM and BTW were genius albums, with those albums she proved she had more to offer than what she gave on The Fame. I really don't see how people think FameGa is superior to TFM or BTW. Andres Miller 206
"everything went downhill from____" Then why are you still around and complaining? You're simply projecting that belief onto her and her career which is what contributed to ARTPOP being seen as a flop by many. Sure, certain eras were "more successful and beautiful" but do you really think if she did that her whole career she would maintain that kind of fame or success? That may work with other pop girls , for other reasons, but Gaga is a chameleon and is ever changing. I thought we left the complaining back in 2013. Appreciate it as a part of her career and what it did for her, but don't wish for an "old" Gaga back.
AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I like her more now. Everyone said she was so fearless back then (which she was) but I feel like she's even more fearless now. But she's still human and she had her breakdown because of the people she was with. IDK I love of the ___Ga's and I can't wait for more. Currently listening to Joanne
