Essence 232
FameGa was great! But FameGa was a young girl on a creative expedition, and we should respect her what she was at that time. Now Gaga is a woman. And naturally she has grown up.

I'm so bitter that she just dismissed it this year as something she patched up so she didn't have to feel depressed. Like bitch no, it was more interesting and artistic than 90% of what you're doing now It all got downhill when she became obsessed with her fans tbh The Fame era was way too intelligent and planned to just be some mask for her depression. I don't doubt that she was struggling at the time, but there was too much thought and awareness behind her "gimmicks" for it to be as much of a farce as she's trying to make it out to be now. Perhaps during The Fame she was on her game career-wise but not so much in her personal life, whereas in more recent years she's gotten her personal life straightened out so she's viewing her career moves during these times as a more genuine expression of herself, and thus downplaying career moments from when she lacked confidence. My other theory is that she's trying to appeal more to the general population and telling them "Yep, you were right- that was all a gimmick and underneath it I'm just a normal girl with unexpected talent!" certainly helps. But I'm still holding on to the hope that Gaga is more honest than that.

I really think it was the hip injury, I think it made her realise she wasn't unstoppable. I watch videos of the Born This Way Balls that came after mine and it's like she was a different person and she was effectively lost for a while. In her old performances and when I seen her, she DOMINATED the stage but not long before 2012 as over she started to lose that power? It's so hard to describe but it's like the drive was gone for a while. I think it's coming back, she's been moving from strength to strength in 2015 so I think she might be ready to really f*ck the stage up again like she used to. ------------------------------------------------------- I love the DIY fashion of the early fame era. The discostick and the glasses... God damn it was awesome I also miss the DIY fashion. I mentioned it below in this post too, but I think what we've seen in the last few years is an odd transitional period. I mean, if she were to perform Just Dance on stage now like she did in 2009 it'd look out of place and juvenile, right? But she also hasn't quite reached that elevated mature performer stage either (as a whole- of course she's had individual performances in which she has), so it's this weird stage of nostalgia for that crazy artsy chick and desire to be respected as a talented individual. And they're two very different extremes in the way they've been portrayed. I don't view Gaga as a different person in any of these eras, it's always been one talented woman doing what she does best. Like, if you look back on your life 6 years ago would you say that you weren't you? Of course not, but inevitably you'll have changed a lot since then, and in my case I'm glad I have. Look at it this way - either Gaga remains static her whole career and we complain about the lack of variety. Alternatively, Gaga changes and develops her career and we get to see the full variety and spectrum of talent she offers over many years. I know which one I prefer, and thankfully it's the one we're living in! This is a very good point to bring up. It's funny because I notice a lot of similarities in my work ethic and Gaga's over the years. I'm not implying we're "connected" or anything, but I think a lot of it comes down to our ages and how growing up effects people like us. When I was getting going in my career and figuring out my personal life I was very starry-eyed and felt like a little energizer bunny that could do it all on no sleep, then over the years things here and there happened that just slowly chipped away at that Do-It-All person I once was. And after a while I got sick of hiding my real emotions and just wanted my friends and coworkers to point out that something was missing. No one ever seemed to notice; I'm good at powering through, I guess. But the heart isn't there like it once was. And much like I miss my rather naive and passionate drive, I also miss Gaga's. I miss feeling like I'm an unstoppable force, and I miss only imagining what heartbreak feels like. Certain life experiences can really change people, and I think that's what happened to Gaga. 1 hour ago, Essence said: FameGa was great! I think we've seen an odd transitional stage for her. I don't think her career is over or that she'll never be as great as she once was, but I do think there's a few kinks she's still working out. I also think a lot of those kinks come from finding a way to combine who she is inside with what she wants her career to be.

VenusBlackStar 1,301
I get nostalgic about Fame Era Gaga sometimes. I just got The Fame on vinyl and lived through the nostalgia of playing that record on repeat in 2009. Good thing we have all those great performances to revisit on YouTube though!! Some early performances still slay me.

ChicaSkas 22,945
Oh i would have killed to have the money, transportation, and internet connections to be able to have gone to her live shows back in 2008. Just killed. As it was, I had to ask friends who had computers to make me copies of her CD so I could listen on demand instead of struggling to find her being played on radio.
