Also, if you had clicked on the link instead of just dragging, she isn't trademarking the year 1989. She is trademarking the stylized 1989 title treatment, with that particular font and appearance. So basically a logo.

Because my young kemosabe, she's copywriting the "YEAR" in terms to her album. So people can't make shirts that say "PARTY WITH STYLE LIKE IT'S 1989". It's not as if she's trying to take command of the entire year. Dramatic.
