Bradley 59,023
People should really stop blaming Interscope for the things that they weren't satisfied with. If anything, Interscope is the media that brought her to us. Some occasional conflicts are inevitable but most of the time, they have been helping Gaga in achieving her dreams. Right now they are in the middle of promoting two of the most well received pop girls in 2014 and 2015 and yet neither of them have been selling albums. (Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding) They can't translate their success with singles into album success the way Katy's label or JB's label or even Beyonce's label has. It's just weird. They do very well with male rappers but female pop stars are not their strength. Her label may be supportive but they are not writing good marketing plans for her. IMO Isn't her management company Live Nation? i.e. the ones who plan promo?

Columbia Records decides nothing for David Bowie, they are lucky enough to have him. Maybe when you get to the point that they aren't counting on you to sell a great deal of albums and you aren't going to have any singles take off and sell well, they let you do your thing more...to a certain extent. When the label isn't going to be putting big money behind promo, videos, radio ads and promo to stations, iTunes banners, etc., they probably let the older artists have more lead way. Gaga isn't in the same situation that someone like Bowie is in at that point in his career.

Pretty much all labels have a couple of positions called Label Managers. Those are the people that write up a marketing and promo plan based on the artist and budget they receive. From there I'm not exactly sure what happens. I'm pretty sure her manager can decide what they are willing to do or not. They can also be like well we have to book this appearance. The bigger they star the more pull they have on making changes.
