DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Aside from Taylor Swift, the last year of the music industry was dominated by male artists. From the end of October of 2014 to the release of "Hello" by Adele, only one woman had a #1 hit on the Hot 100 (Taylor Swift). 8 men had a #1 hit: Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, Kendrick Lamar, OMI, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber. Women were also infrequent visitors to the top ten in the past year. But now, with Adele at #1, it seems like women have returned to the top of the charts. Looking at the current top songs on Twitter (minus Voice contestants), 6 of the top 10 songs are by female artists: Adele, Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Sia and Meghan Trainor. Those in the industry say there are patterns of years that belong to female artists and years that belong to male artists and they flip back and forth to some degree. So it looks as though 2016 is going to be the year of the ladies. Are you excited? Aside from Gaga, which mainstream female artists are you looking forward to take over the charts? Harry 26,836
I don't understand. You explicitly state that this entire year has been completely dominated by men yet just because a female is now number one it's a "woman's industry"? I don't think it's quite that simple. It's not only because a woman is number one. Other women are moving up the charts, and we haven't seen many women up there since 2014, its trending towards women taking over the top 10/20. And speaking to the word "industry" it was an exaggeration. I'm not speaking about the industry as a whole, i'm just speaking in terms of chart dominance. Clearly men still dominate the industry behind the scenes (unfortunately).

Just like gaga, if she wanted to produce her own song put it on an album im sure she could. She doesn't decide the songs because she rarely writes them. And yes, money IS power. She has a lot more influence over people and culture than any one of us. "WOMEN in music FEEL the need.." = Katy, feels the need. Not some dude She could also make her own label but she's making millions and probably doesnt want to leave bye.
Raikov 183
I hate male-dominated years. Wasnt 2012 a male year? Or was that just a string of 1 hit wonders? Bring on the ladies! Gaga, Katy, Kesha (crossing my fingers), Rihanna, everyone really.
