Gender is a spectrum, not a binary. One merely has to look at the many people who exist as neither male nor female or both to see that. If you dont accept self identification for some reason ( ) than inters-x is a thing and many inters-x trans people see themselves as neither male nor female or somewhere in the middle -- s-x is assigned at birth based on genitalia, and the procedure for determining s-x with ambiguous genitalia is really quite arbitrary - its sometimes literally a "it looks big enough to be a penis, so I guess hes male? I'd raise him as male and just deal with it later " 

Many societies have also historically recognized a third gender, or no gender :emma: (or more than three for that matter)

There's so much cold tea throughout history that proves that ambis-xuality and homos-xuality were so widespread back then, before the Western society (religion, I think) decided it was wrong and people started adopting that mentality.

There really is And it's kind of.. interesting how Western society still carries on these ideas, while it thinks we've already evolved past religious nonsensical bs. The book is very adamant in saying that exclusive heteros-xuality (or homos-xuality) is basically as unnatural as some Christians still think homos-xuality is. That's a wild statement and I don't think the majority of (heteros-xual or homos-xual) people would welcome it, even though there's long been scientific proof.

It doesn't really affect me, I like being male. And I hope everyone else is able to like being whatever they are.

There is a lot of the brain that we don't understand. Like my Anatomy textbook says that the epithalamus may play a role in puberty.

This isn't going to convince anti-trans people, but non-binary or alternative gendered folk will be delighted to hear this.

I've always been and always will be female, so whatevs. If I wasn't sure of my own gender I might need a study or the validation of a GGD user to figure it out, but thankfully I need neither to be sufficiently confident in myself.

The point of this research is to determine if brain functioning is influenced by gender differences (indeed because of hormones and chemical processes and what not) or not. If not, and this is what the study shows, then the social constructs of gender are still 100% made up even if there is a difference in the body that doesn't determine anything else but those hormones and chemical processes.

The conclusion is: people, in theory, don't need to attach anything else to physical differences between men and women. In fact, you could go to the extreme and say that concepts like "man" and "woman" aren't even necessary. But even if you don't take it there, it's still important. I don't know about that... like the article said, it can help to still look at genders (or the perception of) and how they can play a role in brains, with the examples of autism being 5 times more common among males and depression being 2 times more common among females.

That's true, I see that now. But I'm sure we both agree that there's a cosmos of difference between separating s-xes based on physiological phenomena and creating social concepts of how a man and woman should be, based on some fictitious illusions.

It's all so interesting. I wish I could look into the future and see how different (or the same, yawn) these things are all gonna be in like a thousand years
