The Fame was literally about her obsession with fame and celebrity culture. :toofunny:

Before The Fame she was sending in songs to Britney Spears :toofunny:

After The Fame she was working with names like Beyonce :toofunny:

Disagree. The Fame had a subtext that she literally expressed multiple times.

It's always funny to me how I'm the one being called out for questioning her artistic integrity when people make "defensive" statements like this that actually discredit Gaga's artistic ideas.

All I can say is do some more research, watch some more interviews and open your eyeballs. The Fame was an embodied commentary on fame.

It obviously was commentary on the nature of fame but Gaga still tirelessly chased that lifestyle, despite the constant jabs at it. Beyond anything else that's extremely telling of how deep her compulsion to be a celebrity runs. :flop:

Saint Laurent

Lady Gaga has never claimed to hate the Kardashians or anybody similar, she just said she dislikes that they get confused for artists even though there is a clear distinction.

I agree with everything Gaga said to her.

I don't know. I never figured out if she really wants to be famous or not. I mean, sure she does, but I used to think, based on her own early comments, that she wanted to reach fame to be able to project her (anti-fame) ideas on a mass scale. Cue the semi-embarrassing but inspiring "to bring the avant-garde into the mainstream" statements. I became less sure of that over the years, simply because she didn't try it at all, but I don't know.. if she was satisfied with just being a celebrity I don't think she would even try to do 30% of what she (still) does.

Some of y'all acting as if she should isolate herself from A-Listers and social events. Jesus Christ whether you like it or not she's in the industry of entertainment, as is the Kardashians/Jenners. It is inevitable that they would be in the same place at the same party at some point or another. She has a good time with them at a party and she's blasted for not staying true to her artistry.

This site will never, ever, EVER, cease to leave me at a loss for words.

Somebody who doesn't want to be famous wouldn't put up with all the celebrity bulls--t(record labels, management companies, the media etc etc). Celebrities who talk about hating celebrity culture shouldn't ever have their comments on the matter taken seriously, whether they're all-time great artists like LG or not. The jabs at fame were a great way to market herself because everyone alive likes to talk **** about hollywood. It's a common, proven strategy.

Whispering

That was nice of Gaga to do, as Kylie does seem to often be a target of ridicule. Like most young adults, Kylie is in the process of figuring things out, as she becomes an independent person. She obviously needed some kind words and support at that time. Glad that Gaga was there to encourage her in a positive way.

Hmm. You make a convincing case indeed. I guess I was hanging on to the hopes I had for Gaga pre-2010. Well, actually that's not true.. I mean, at least she had a strategy back then. And she was smart about it. Still way different from what she's pulling these days.

But yeah, you're definitely right about her never having put up with the commercial side of things. I remember cackling when she said she'd rather go back to playing in bars than change herself, like only a month after she admitted her era was a failure because she had zero control over what was even happening.

But she does seem more balanced these days, let's hope she pulls it together and at least has a consistent self-construction narrative again.

And I love Kylie @ everyone b---hing in this thread. I'm only asking for Gaga to be goddamn consistent for once.

We're far from "I don't wanna be a celebrity, I wanna be an artist", aren't we. Two years ago she was mocking Kim Kardashian as the antithesis of her artistry and now she's posing with them, telling them they're amazing and they shouldn't change because they're amazing at what they do - which is nothing but be commercial exploiters.

Oh how I wish Gaga told herself to not change a little bit more post-2008.

Oh so you want Gaga to stay the same after 7 years? Gurl, she's an artist, she's a human, SHE NEEDS TO CONSTANTLY CHANGE. Gosh..
