Tuesday's Doodle is no exception. It features a primate, an Australopithecus (a close relative to humans) and a human, to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Lucy the Australopithecus' discovery. Lucy is thought to have walked upright and is considered to be an early human ancestor. Forty-seven of Lucy's 206 bones were found in Ethiopia in 1974 — about 40% of her skeleton. Evolution, of course, is an aggressively disputed topic (remember the Scopes trial, anyone?) and some creationists — and, probably, a few trolls too — have taken to the Internet to express their anger at Google for celebrating a historic scientific moment. "Google, I'm not a monkey!" one wrote. Another: "Google supports the THEORY of evolution. If evolution were true we wouldn't have monkeys around anymore, idiots!" Angel Baby 106 Posted November 25, 2015 Share Posted November 25, 2015 I'm a church/Sunday school teacher and I personally dont believe in evolution(for obvious reasons ), but i do think its okay for everyone to have a a different theory or idea of where we originate from. It's actually quite sad how ignorant some people are. They go against something without even trying to understand it. This is why I respect atheists who at least try to inform themselves about different religions. They don't believe yet still inform themselves, which imo is quite admirable. All I can really say is that evolution needs to be taught more clearly in schools, otherwise people are going to continue to grow up scientifically illiterate and ignorant. This whole "It's just a THEORY" argument is so tiring, Theories are often better supported in science than scientific laws. If you believe that scientific theories have no evidence to support them, then there is no point going to the doctor. The germ THEORY of disease states that viruses and bacteria causes illness, it's strange that medicines and treatments based around these assumptions seem to work but obviously there is no real hard evidence around that viruses and bacteria cause illness.
