AHS needs longer seasons

I know that the main complaint from many is that they seem to want plot points to be answered in a quick linear fashion, but I'd actually prefer that AHS run a full 22 series season.   This way we'd get time for subplots to develop ( like Liz and Tristan ) and character development.    A lot of people seem to have no patience, but I'd like the time for plots and subplots to develop fully without seeming rushed.   The story in AHS plays out over an entire season, it's not a weekly serial where every week has to solve some problem.   I think this makes AHS much more interesting, and they have so many interesting characters and ideas that I'd love to see it play out over a 22 episode run.  Either that or they need to make every episode 2 hours long, lol.

It needs better, more coherent writing, not longer seasons. If they made 22 episodes it'd end up like Glee, with filling episode after filling episode, and people would get tired of waiting week after week for no plot development.

I totally agree. Either longer seasons or less plot lines. It doesn't help with the Murder House schtick where every dead character comes back and adds another storyline.

nah the little complainers can't catch up to what's going on as it is and are bored by the 4th episode no matter how the seasons plays out :crossed:

I would actually love to see that development in this ensemble cast but people are hard to please and making that big of a change would turn them against AHS

A 13 episode season is what makes the show good. Instead of dragging the seasons with even more messy and all over the place subplots (not that it's happening this season, thank Jesus), they need to tighten the writing. It would just be worse. We all know what happened to Glee with its 22 episode seasons under Ryan's guidance, and I say this from a place of love because God knows I love that show.

The problem with longer seasons is that there's a need to fill in more time. Yes, it's possible to have 20+ episodes and all of them being relatively strong and full of character/plot development, but it's also quite difficult to stretch a story into such a large space without having to pad it with filler or have it begin to drag.

I think they have the right amount of episodes. I prefer 10-13 episode seasons over longer. It allows enough time for a great story and fantastic character work, without putting too much pressure on the writers to fill a large episode quota.

Ryan Murphy has his shortcomings, though. I think he needs to better plan out what he wants to do with each season. Sometimes it feels like he has too many ideas and tries to incorporate them all. It's good that he has so much that he wants to do, but it's best to save some ideas for future projects and just focus on making a few of the best ideas as strong as possible rather than including as much as possible.

22-25 episode seasons are too long though, that's almost half a year just watching one TV show weekly :deadbanana: One of the things that got me into AHS was that the seasons were short compared to some other shows, which means that the pacing is usually really good and keeps you hooked and makes the climax build quicker and better :yay:

they'd be filming almost all year then so no. the actors barely have enough time as it is having to film everyday from 7 am - 12 am/3 am

I think longer episodes might be a better idea, but even then, the show would drag out a little too much. An hour of that show already takes me a week to fully understand/ a--lyze.

I prefer short seasons. While I love the show and would love more, 13 episodes leaves no room for flimsy stories and unnecessary scenes. Good writing (including the amount of characters etc) allows for optimal character development and story telling despite the short time frame allowed.

short shows are always more enjoyable for me. it's more coherent and I can still remember what happened to the premier when I'm at the finale. Unlike 23-episode shows I forgot the first half when I'm at the finale. Also way more fillers in between.

Sherlock only has 3 episodes per season and it is so tightly written that it slays me with every episode

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

People have to live their lives, they can't just keep filming nonstop.

Especially Gaga, when she has a million other things going on at the same time.

You won't be saying that during the 13th episode. After it kicks off and ends, you're ready for a new concept/setting all that.
