I see her music as aural bread. It's consumed frequently and enjoyed by most people, but it's also nothing too extraordinary (IMO). She has a great voice, tho.

She has a small range but an excellent control, she is an accomplished singer. That said, I dont like her depressive music.

I can't stand all the threads that appear with questions like these.

"Basic" (whatever that means) is in the eye of the beholder and not really threadworthy?

And we should follow Gaga's lead by not criticizing or diminishing other artists.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Kinda. Her music and lyrics isnt anything revolutionairy or that unique

however  shes super talanted. You can be basic and talanted or he unique and talantless. One doesnt automatically equate with the other

i think ppl dont consider her basic because such a good powerful voice is not usualy associated with basic singers

Not a fan except for Skyfall, What do you mean by basic? As in trendy, cash grabbing, Selfie taking, onto the next biggest thing basic? Or simplicity basic? I say yes to the latter.

If people would take the negative connotation away from that word, she is definitely basic. She sings simple songs and has a great voice. There isn't really anything particularly unique about her or her music other than it appealing to all demographics.

This isn't me using the word in the modern way of meaning "untalented and barely mediocre," but just in the general use of the word: yes, I think she is. Her voice is alright although it strains and cracks a lot (she got her throat problems through bad technique) - certainly not the powerhouse the public makes it out to be. And her lyrics are very simplistic. If you listed all the words from each of her songs, it would be of a very low reading level. Hello is a perfect example. But it's still a great song. But that doesn't mean it's not simple and basic. There can be beauty in simple and basic. But when it's all an artist does...it gets very boring. Her basicness is why the public love her so much. I don't think it's because of her huge talent (there are plenty of other far more talented artists just like her that can't catch a break), it's all because they want easy to understand, easily digestible music that doesn't challenge. And you can't get more basic than your run of the mill breakup ballad. It's easy to understand, easy to relate to, therefore a hit. Nothing more. True talent comes from making songs that aren't easy to understand or relatable but become hits.

No she's not basic...

Making songs you can relate doesn't make you basic...

When I think about it I'm pretty sure there's not even 10 Gaga songs I can relate...

It's very easy to make a relatable song, though. Even I could do it and I'm not a songwriter. We know the cliches, it's just a matter of putting them to a beat. Adele's lyrics deal with every cliche in the book. You don't even need to have been in a relationship to write a break up song because we know what the attributes of a break up song involve. We've certainly endured more than enough breakup hits to understand what it takes to write one. If you ask me, breakup songs are where most artists go to when they've run out of ideas - because such a topic is always a guaranteed hit. That's why you get artists in happy relationships still putting out breakup songs. Because it's quick to write in 15 minutes and it pays the bills.

And just because you can't relate to a song doesn't make it not good. This is a concept I've been fighting against for years. It's why the charts are loaded with songs about all the same thing. As a music lover, I can find beauty in almost all music, whether I can relate to it or not. I can't relate to all of Gaga's work but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it, as do you.

I thought you were going to say that quote from My Big Fat Greek Wedding - "So dry! That family is like a piece of toast! No honey, no jam, just dry! My daughter going to marry into this toast family!" I basically use this quote for a lot of people in the music industry now.

She is kind of basic, I guess, but that's what makes her awesome, too.

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

Hhmmm I don't know, her music is a bit conservative and kindda unremarkable. I miss Amy.
