You're letting your bias cloud your judgement. Making your grandmother cry = almost a year in jail? Tell granny to get thicker sick. Give me a break...

Disgusting.

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride

You don't live in Germany right? Then why do you think you can judge on German society? Germany has a problem with a rising far-right. She is a threat that she using public platforms to spread her Nazi propaganda. That shouldn't be allowed and hurts.

I'm not judging German society, I'm commenting on your thread about a German law.

Censoring extremists doesn't stop them, it encourages them. It makes them feel like they are getting under the skin of the establishment, it makes them feel like they are right.

The best way to stop extreme ideologies is not to censor, it is to engage and scrutinise.

You're comparing it to a belief like a religion, it's not.

You're damaging my brain cells comparing racism to polygamy or peaceful satanism.

Firstly religious belief is not the only kind of belief. Racists do have rights too, they also deserve them. You don't punish somebody for simply having a belief, or for expressing their right to talk about it.

Racists have no rights, stop pretending you have any

I'm a little confused by this bit. Were you attempting to say MJHolland has no rights for disagreeing with you? Or did you mean "you" as in racists; implying that MJHolland is one for disagreeing? Either is pretty despicable. All citizens have and deserve rights, not just those that hold the majority opinion.

Disgusting.

What's disgusting is that an elderly woman had a right to free speech stripped away from her because it could hurt someone's feelings.... let me say that again. FEELINGS. A nearly 90 year old woman is going to spend a year in prison because she hurt someone's f*cking FEELINGS.

How do you not find that disgusting? I'm guessing your European...

you're wording was wrong and disgusting. To say to a Holocaust survivor to grow a "thicker skin" is disgusting.

Fine. I take those specific words back and apologize.

However, I doubt your grandmother or any Holocaust survivor would want to jail someone just because they have a different belief/mind set than the public. Surely your grandmother knows the danger of imprisoning people for what they say and think. Ponder that for a while before coming back at me.

I don't really agree with jailing people for denying historical events, I mean if they want to live in their little bubble then let them. It's not nice to hear people say that stuff of course, but it's a big sign that they really shouldn't be paid any attention because of how ridiculous it is :rip:

but this is an 87 year old woman who grew up amidst the racism and denial. do you really think that mind set would be passed on to these younger, smarter, more open minded generations that are already learning what happened in the holocaust, had she NOT been jailed for simply denying this?

Nazism is a big problem in Europe at the moment, it's a growing movement so I think it's a good idea to lock up people with these ideas. The Nazi movement is actually growing larger, as are many of the "white power" movements

It's not free speech if it's hate speech

The thing is that she is on public events and says her hate speech.

Justice served. "Freedom of speech" does not mean freedom from consequences. She deserves to be put in jail for much longer.

This is one of the very few things that make me proud about my country. There is no "but this is my opinion" bullsh*t. You can tell nobody here is German because no major country has ever been seriously held accountable for their cruelties, wars & inhumane treatment of minorities. That's why they speak so recklessly and favorably of a woman that spends even the last few years of her life to spread hatred, ignorance and denies the biggest burden of German history.

Those laws were employed so that something like the Holocaust will never happen again and guess what. It's kinda working. No genocide commited by Germany ever since WW2 ended. Can't say the same thing about the USA.

What genocide has the US committed in recent history?

According to the statutes of the United Nations a genocide is defined as so:

… any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

All of these were VERY popular techniques employed in the wars against Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. I guess you could argue that the "missing" (which is also debatable) intent to eradicate an ethnicity would speak in favor for the USA, yet all of the atrocities were still committed strategically and purposefully, and definetly not by chance.

If you feel like having a long read I'd recomment this here: http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-united-states-of-genocide-putting-the-us-on-trial-for-genocide-against-the-peoples-of-korea-laos-viet-nam-cambodia-iraq-and-elsewhere/5352227

Also, this on-going police brutality situation and how black people are over-proportionally killed by the federal police seems to have genocidal tendencies. To me at least.
