All religious groups have been persecuted recently. You are not unique in your fears.

I'm always worried some fundamentalist Islamic group is going to massacre my relatives in Lebanon as they have done in Egypt.

So stop attempting to place Jewish people and yourself as an exception to the norm.

I replied to a post that said that Jews are the most privileged race in the world. I didn't deny persecution of other ethnic groups.

Why?

They lied on TV. Isn't that what happens in 99% of the reality TV shows?

It's defamation, you can go to jail almost in any country for it... When people lie on reality TV, they usually don't mention things that could have a potential legal repercussion... But if Ellen Degeneres said Lady Gaga killed someone and stated it as a fact on her show, Gaga could sue (unless Ellen says "allegedly") and Ellen could possibly go to jail

But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

Well Jews aren't a race,  but I agree with you.

Oh well yes if you name a specific person and claim that they raped you then you are likely to face legal repercussions if you are blatantly lying with no case in the form of counter-suits.

It's not applicable in this particular situation though, given that there is no particular targeted victim.

How does denying the Holocaust constitute defamation? Who exactly is being defamed? The Jewish people? Are we going to imprison comedians for making Rabbi jokes?

I never said it's defamation, I was just comparing its severity to other types of situations where speech can get you into jail

I already asked this and no one answered, so I'l ask you directly.

Is homophobia hate speech in Germany? I noticed SSM isn't legal state-wide in Germany. One day when it's legalized and IF homophobia is hate speech, for example a religious leader who opposes SSM comes out saying he doesn't agree, will he be thrown in prison?

Hate speech, incitement of the people as well as Holocaust denial are FORBIDDEN and therefore a CRIME in Germany.

For example would the vile hate speech of the evil US-American "Westboro Baptist Church" here in Germany be forbidden!

Also your ****in' racist US-American Ku-Klux-Klan (KKK) would never ever be allowed in Germany!

Why?

Because the "inviolability of human dignity" is the most important part within the German Basic Law!!!

Even though making jokes about other people is not funny most of the times. But jokes are not being persecuted. I think even jokes about the Holocaust wouldn't bring you in jail.

On that woman the victims of the Shoah would be the once that get defamed.

But again, how are they comparable? There is no victim here here.

It doesn't even qualify as hate speech, given that there is no particular group being targeted either.

It's the denial of an event in human history. It's stupid and illogical, like most **** said on TV, but nobody is getting hurt by it at this point in time given that it is obviously wrong.

This is censorship, pure and simple, with the extreme punishment of imprisonment.

No.

People need to move on from the Holocaust already. It was a horrible time in human history but it's been over 60 years.

This is idiotic and borderline fascist.

The generations it effected are still alive and the ripples of it happening are still felt by the generations that followed.

We're not meant to forget about it but we are meant to "move on" eventually... it doesn't help when you have assholes pretending it didn't happen though, hence why this law is important.

They're only funny if you're part of the group :P

You can't say that the victims are defamed either. Their reputations as Holocaust survivors are intact, given that it is historical fact.

You don't jail someone for saying that 9/11 didn't happen. You laugh at them.

it's not any event in human history, it's an event that still has people sitting in jail...

She lied in front of a judge... It's like saying a rapist didn't rape someone... normally you'd have a case, to determine whether the person is lying or not... in this case you can skip the legal process, since you know the person is lying... Because hypothetically speaking, if the woman had been right, they would have to free the people in jail / pay money to their families, it is linked to legal cases...

Right, but if we instituted laws protecting the feelings of everyone who was ever hurt by a particular event, we'd be censoring 99% of what is currently depicted on television.

This is ridiculous.

Ok, I understand this but is homophobia hate speech? Same s-x marriage is not allowed though? Would a Christian who is not in agreement with same s-x marriage be hypothetically arrested?

In a world where you can spend the rest of your life in prison or even be put to death in some countries for killing one man... I think encouraging people to at least acknowledge the fact a genocide happened isn't asking much at all.
