And Dresden was indeed an important and strategic target for the Allied forces. That so many "innocent" people had to die during these bombings is tragic, but it was WAR! Nowadays we have luckily the ability to use intelligent weapon systems, so the collateral damage will hopefully be low. this is just a mess. in the north of dresden were industrial areas that provided the eastern border with weapons and goods, but nether them nor the autobahn bridge or any other strategic target was attacked during the bombing. the allies prefered to destroy the whole city center instead. I agree with you: this is war, but just because it was that horrific in the past doesn't mean we have to repeat it. just to clarify things: I do not deny Germany's inexplicably role in the 2nd WW but I see the bombings of residential areas of cities as an act of terrorism and a war crime. that is my opinion. I had an objective discussion with @Simon after that, you can gladly keep on reading I don't know why I have to repeat myself, but less than half the people voted for it... When I said Germans I was obviously trying to count the people in, who were victims of the holocaust... Stop putting words in my mouth... But I'm only a man and I do what I can. AquaFire Witch 160
Well I know in America we didn’t get here by just sitting by idly waiting for a miracle to happen from above. You can’t sit Isis down and have tea and explain to them how and why they should stop what they are doing. They have no humanity in them. They want to die and they want to take out as many people as they can with them. Either we continue to allow them to slaughter innocents on a daily basis or we BOMB them off of the face of the earth. If innocents die then so be it as long as it’s not in VAIN!
Kiddoo 18
People acting like throwing bombs into the Middle East would be a solution disturb me. Like srsly? Military force will NEVER end terrorism. Obvsly people have learnt nothing from Irak and Afghanistan. In order to fight ISIS effectively, there must be armistice in Syria in order to get the UN mission to work there properly. Ending the conflict between Iran and Saudi-Arabia and further support of the Peschmerga would be a step in the right direction. Through reasonable discussion and educational work it can be prevented that more people in Western countries turn to extremism. I'm afraid that the anger, the grief and the feelings of revenge will cause stupid acts that will lead in the wrong direction.

What do you suppose to do? Close all the borders and tell the refugees to stay in their countries while throwing bombs at them? Like somebody here said you have to "sacrifice" some people's life to end the war? Reacting with violence will always cause more extremism and hate, the intentions don't matter. You could invade and impose martial law, give the people aide and recruit them to your side (which shouldn't be that hard, considering there are millions trying to flee, they should be desperate to have the shelter of western military's). That would take a long time, be very expensive, it's clear that the US doesn't want to do that, and it comes with many risk (the major one being that these people hate westerners as much as ISIS if not more, which seems guaranteed if some of GGD's members are any indicator). Another option is to let Russia invade and put Assad back in power so he can impose martial law instead. That's not very moral though, but it's cheap and actually seems very likely. What we can't do is open the borders so extremism can flood over Europe (and the US). Doing that makes counter terrorism impossible and pretty much guarantees that attacks like these will be common place. And it doesn't help anyone actually fleeing terrorism to let terrorism spread. There really is no good that comes from that. The bombings are obviously not working, I wouldn't suggest that. Obama just really does not want to send in troops, which I totally get but he is really letting the problem fester at this point. It's not like he is running for reelection, he needs to make some unpopular decisions to get the job done. The comparisons to Germany are not inappropriate, we ignored Germany even though we knew what was happening because we didn't want to go to war, and then the war ended up being the worst in history. We're doing the same thing now.

Yes, you're right, the whole thing was completely hypothetical, because some people were talking about a war between those too and some were generalizing everything and bombing a whole country... But yes, it's hard to talk about Syria as a "country" as divided as it is right now But I'm only a man and I do what I can.
