The hard pacifists here act like we shouldn't do anything because there's no "clear" enemy here.  I agree, it's horrible that there are civilians in the way, and we should try to keep their casualties down.  However, this needs to be dealt with quickly.  If there was time, if we had years to do cross-cultural education and reach out to the at-risk populations and deradicalize them, then great, I would 100% support that.  But we don't.  Whether it's French innocents dying or innocent people in the way of the bombs we drop on ISIS, someone is going to die, and wouldn't you rather a few ISIS leaders die with them?

I have the utmost respect for pacifists, but when your solution is unrealistic, what are you going to do, do nothing and go about your life until a bomb takes you out?

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

How on Earth can you justify or even support this evil terror attack, which happened in Paris on Friday?

Horrible...

Where did I give my support ? And do you think what's doing the west since the end of WW2 is warrantable ? What I meant is that for sure they would be attacked back

This. Some of you that are against bombing and/or any military interventions should propose other ways of dealing with this. We all want to hear your ideas.

They should begin by cleaning their own country instead of attacking outside.

Regardless of whom was wrong in the conflict, please have respect for those lost in France, and for all those lost in previous incidents around the world. Thank you.

Why wasn't this done sooner? We have Russia, NATO, US, and Iran and even Assad's forces fighting members of ISIS, yet they still manage to operate successfully enough to create an Islamic State and still recruit thousands globally. There is a proxy war going on, and I think there are nation states or organizations helping them. How hard can it be to locate where their funding is coming from and freeze bank accounts tied to the organization?

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

Well, the oil companies didn't leave in 1946... I'm not trying to blame anyone but people seem to only see black and white, when it's much more complicated than they think

(Also, I meant "war", because I was referring to the people calling this a war between France and Syria)

It was a mistake from you to bring up a conflict into the discussion, which actually ended in 1946.

What comes next?

Maybe that Germany is responsible for the current crisis between Russia and Ukraine - because the Third Reich started WW2 in 1939?

This war is actually between every civilised nation and the islamistic terrorist groups, who are a treat for all of our democratic and liberal nations.

A threat for the innocent people living in those countries, too...

That's not going to fix or prevent anything and it's also almost impossible to achieve.

When you want to eradicate wasps you don't just kill the ones that are outside or bothering you, you destroy the nest, if you don't destroy the nest then it's useless to kill some of them.

They are everywhere and what happened friday came from the inside

Some people in this thread act as if France should just write a strongly worded open letter denouncing ISIS and then call it a day...yes, because that DEFINITLY going to persuade the homicidal maniacs from killing more innocent people. Pacifism has a limit and that limit is becoming a doormat to terrorists who wish to destroy a peaceful, secular Europe that has taken hundreds of years to build after hundreds of other wars. Destroying Western society in the name of all-reaching pacifism, while noble, is something you can't reverse. These terrorists don't understand moral pacifism and never will.

I guess you are referring to me

Sadly, I don't have any solution...

I've only been replying to people who have made very insensitive remarks when talking about innocent lives...

I absolutely condemn the need to enter a thread like this screaming "Yes, bomb them all" ... "They should have done this ages ago"... If you have nothing new to say, why the need to comment things like that... I don't get it....

But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

They're not invading Syria or attacking a civilian town, they're bombing a known training camp. There's a difference.

But their bases are in Syria. It's way harder to know what they are doing or to stop them if they have a territory where they can do whatever they want without anyone being able to stop them.

They are. I always hear of raids and authorities stopping terror plots.

France is wasting money and resources on this, only to show "look we revenged" while there are other extremists inside France, some born and raised French ready to attack again after this. It just goes in circles.

The country is still vulnerable and they already had few false alarms. One of the attackers was "known to police", what the hell happened? Aren't these "known to police" suppose to be followed?

Ugh...
