Supersonic 49,376
There is this bronze statue of a Korean teenage girl in Seoul, representing the 'comfort women' who were forced to have s-x with Japanese soldiers during the war. And Japan doesn't like it. Japanese officials have recently asked the South Korean government to remove this statue in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul. This isn't the first time Japan has asked Korea to remove the statue. The statue was put up by Korean activists back in December 2011. Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is said to have brought up the statue with South Korean President Park Geun-hye during recent talks. But taking down the statue is said to be up to the activists themselves, not the South Korean government. The issue of comfort women back in World War 2 is still a controversial topic today, as Koreans believe the women were never fully compensated for their horrible experience, while Japan believes it was all settled in the bilateral treaty of 1965. Back when Korea was under imperial rule of Japan, during World War 2, many Korean women were taken as 'comfort women', who were basically s-x slaves to Japanese soldiers. Testimonies from comfort women say they were abducted from their homes or lured with promises of jobs in factories or restaurants. SychosSoChic 9,995
Japan ain't got NO PLACE asking this of Korea, considering how it's a part of Korean history and heritage it's just plain none of Japan's business. Japan ain't got no business trying to sweep their dirty little past under the rug like this just because they're not comfortable. Pathetic. Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us. 420 1,042
Welp, those who cannot let go of the past that will never be repeated and blame it on people who are not responsible for the action are quite bitter imo. 너와의 어색한 침묵이 차라리 좋아

In all fairness to Korea, I think there's some still living comfort women, so there's no doubt relatives of them still living as well. This was recent enough that it'd impacted plenty of people alive in Korea and if they want a statue to honor them, I don't see the problem and quite honestly, Japan can **** off on this one. HANZ 4,380
Japan should take actions and responsability of their past they can't just act like nothing happened for the horrible things their ancestors did to China and Korea in their past like the Nanking Massacre or the Comfort women in WW2 but China and Korea should also not try to Hate Japan as much as possible and don't blame the japanese people of these days for the mistakes of their ancestors, it's just not fair My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

While it still is on Korean ground, it's outside where people are supposed to be safe and secure. The embassy is supposed to a haven for when **** goes down. If you don't know, embassies are considered foreign soil. A Japanese Embassy is basically owned by Japan, not Korea. Same for a US. Embassy. While we can all agree that the mistakes of the past should not be swept under a rug to be forgotten, we must not forget that people do not know anything or everything. There are arguments made for both sides, and though I would like to agree with Korea and say the past cannot be forgotten, there's only so long you can live in spite and hatred. While the sins of the pasts cannot be forgiven or forgotten, we can move on, and try not to bring it up as much. Strife only leads to more strife. They should reach a settlement of some sort. Arguments over a statue is unbefitting of any national leaders outside a museum.

The reason the activists set up a statue was because Japan enshrines the wwii war criminals https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_surrounding_Yasukuni_Shrine a big beautiful nazi shrine vs a poor little commemoration statue, fair enough giving up sodomy and moving to 🇦🇪 converting to ☪ and marrying four girls

I actually think a memorial directly at the front of the embassy is good because they get confronted with it. You know in Germany we have memorials in front of houses where Jews have lived. And that is good and needed.
Klou 2,414
While Japan needs to accept and take responsibility for what happened, the fact they placed it in front of the Japanese Embassy is really tacky. It's like placing a statue of an American slaughtering a Japanese in front of an American embassy.
