Don't get me wrong, I will absolutely acknowledge that racism exists in Columbia, MO, exactly the same way as it does in the rest of the Western world. But don't single it out as if it is this hotbed of inbred hillbillies looking to start a KKK riot. That is 100% the antithesis of what Columbia, MO is all about. That's all I"m trying to say.

Don't believe me? Look up their voting record. Columbia, MO is one of the most liberal communities in the US (and only the residents (i.e., not the college students) can vote there....

RACISM IS EVERYWHERE. That means ANY RACE TARGETING ANOTHER RACE. I am aware that positivity exists just as much as negativity, but you are pointing out your fortunate experiences in a place that you were 10 years ago meanwhile there is serious hatred going on as we speak about the past.

My experience was farrrrrrrrrrr from fortunate! I lived thru these same hillbillies shouting "*******" at me and my boyfriend as we walked down the street holding hands. What I'm trying to say is DO NOT VILLIFY THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY based on the actions of these very few. It's actually quite opposite of what is appearing in the headlines right now. JFC, is that so hard to comprehend? I'm not trying to minimize the current situation, but just trying to provide some first-hand perspective.

Their's is a dying opinion. The fact that they've been pushing even harder lately is proof of that. The animal backed into a corner fights the hardest but in this case it will die. Hopefully our children and children's children will live in a world where this won't happen, or in a world where the mere threat of this isn't taken lightly.

All you have to do to change the world is be the change. By us flying pride flags, hugging others of any color or back ground, and blasting music like Born This Way we're making an impact and not allowing ourselves to be a part of the problem.

I have friends that go to this school, and it looks like it was a few anonymous threats over the last couple of days...NOT the KKK riding around in trucks or walking around campus armed. The student body president reported false information (rumors) on Facebook and it all blew up. He has since then apologized for reporting misinformation. 

"Rumors of a Ku Klux Klan presence on campus ran rampant on social media Tuesday night. Several news outlets erroneously reported a KKK presence had been confirmed on campus, with some citing MSA President Payton Head as a source.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Head said the KKK’s presence had been “confirmed” on campus and that he was “working with the MUPD, a state trooper and the National Guard.”

Head issued an apology for sharing misinformation, which he said came from “multiple incorrect sources.” The Missouri National Guard confirmed they had been contacted about the rumored KKK presence on campus Tuesday night, but an official — who declined to give his name — said they were “never working with anyone” to respond to the rumor.

“In a state of alarm, I was concerned for all students of the University of Missouri and wanted to ensure that everyone was safe,” Head wrote in a Facebook apology. “The last thing needed is to incite more fear in the hearts of our community.”
