How will Gaga survive in a post-Gaga world?

I truly believe she was just being true to herself with the album ARTPOP, but that clearly wasn't what the public wanted anymore. To avoid career suicide, Gaga and her manager made the smart choice of focusing on American standards (Cheek to Cheek) and universal songs that everybody loves (The Sound of Music, Imagine). It's worked out very well and has completely rebuilt her image.

But what about LG5? In a world that is fiercely passionate about talent and minimalism nowadays (see: Adele), where does Gaga fit in? Will the girl who lit her tits on fire and had  someone throw up on her on stage really be able to tone it down for her own pop album?

Musically, I don't think she has anything to worry about, because she is versatile and has amazing producers to help her craft a new sound. But in terms of wardrobe and performance, can you really imagine a Gaga on a chat show in jeans and a halter neck, standing there with a microphone instead of doing intense choreography with a thousand dancers and a wardrobe change midway through? Is that really the Gaga we fell in love with?

I find this really difficult to reconcile. I want Gaga to be successful again and I want her to update her sound and try something new.... but I also don't want her to lose sight of her artistry and her extravagance. She is a performer in every sense of the word. Toning down her act would stifle her creativity.

So which way do you think she will go: same old extravagance, or toned down? How will she survive pop culture in 2016?

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

Mister Gaga

Talent always wins. She'll comeback stronger than ever.

I think she will bring CrazyGa back, but much more tone down that 2009/10. Something a la oscars. Extravagant but not crazy

Head Empty

What you describe are two ends of a very varied spectrum. Creative expression can literally be done in countless ways, and when it comes to fashion and performance the possibilities are almost just as endless. And she has shown before that there's a middle ground that she can use in between the extreme avant-garde and the extremely toned down. Something like Swinefest is a perfect example of that. Extreme at times, very toned down at others, and also that perfect balance in between.

The biggest question, however, is what she wants to do. She can literally go any way she wants at this point, because we now know she can pull anything off.

She has always created music that sounded a little bit ahead of its time. She won't conform to today's top music just to get on the charts, and I think that will pay off.

She could stand there singing in jeans and a t-shirt and I'd still love her. I'm sure she'll do whatever crazy stuff she wants on her tour.

I think people wanna see more of Stefani. She doesn't have to change her name tho, she can still be called Gaga, but I think people are starting to relate to her more now that she's more open about her personal life. Her music and looks need to reflect that.

If anything, it will make her stand out and show that she doesn't follow trends.

It's a part of what made her so great and unique in the first place.

Gaga's entire theatrics came out of NOWHERE in 2008. I believe that now that everyone's not trying to be Gaga (like all the crazy outfits at awards shows) then Gaga's crazy will shine again.

All ViviLittleM said was that people want to paint C2C like a smart move after the ARTPOP fiasco when, in fact, C2C started out in the Fall of 2012, was recorded in Q1 of 2013, and was meant as a Fall 2013 release. It was supposed to come out in time for the holiday season in 2013. But ARTPOP's release was moved up, thus pushing C2C to a Fall 2014 release.

C2C was not a "choice" made by Gaga and her management because of the ARTPOP backlash. C2C was recorded before ARTPOP was ever released! It was only ever supposed to be a small side project for the holiday season.

The only good or lucky choice that was made was to push C2C back to Fall 2014.

I think some fans are secretly afraid and deluded that Gaga might actually be getting tired of wearing crazy outfits. She's not going to dress crazy forever because her taste changes just like every other human being. If she decided to wear t shirts and jeans then that's where she's in her life.
