Gaga is definitely capable of being more animated on-screen, but the role wouldn't make sense if performed like that.
Felicia 124
Ryan Murphy and company have been doing a horrible job, up to this point, of developing The Countess character Lack of screen time is hurting in a big way. Chris Evans 8,917
that scene with liz taylor and when she broke up with donovan truly showed her acting abilities which are really great as for every other scene she's supposed to be pretty monotone- i think it's pretty obvious we're going to soon see her backstory which will explain why her character acts like that so far the countess has been so calm and collected unlike a few scenes like where she shoots the guy and just loses it
Brooke Hoegan 1,018
Well, Mr March is very much like her - he has the accent, he's very elegant and distant/stiff, only a little bit more emotional than the Countess It's just that they both are very old, grew up in pre-war Europe I believe, so they both have that wooden manners But why everybody sees it in the Countess and blames it on Gaga's bad acting and nobody says a word about Mr March when he's basically the same ? I can kind of read into it that maybe it is supposed to be a sort of regal....mystique type thing. like Head Bitch In Charge floating on air. Also I guess it makes sense because she is "Dead." But other vampires aren't like that. I really don't think however the character is coming off matches what the intention is....but I can't tell what the intention is or really what gaga is serving us exactly. Does that make sense? Am I insane? I am just baffled as to what is going on. 5 episodes in and the only cracks I have seen, besides that two seconds where she shoots the guy, looked like a mistake. Even when she was doing her "Born This Way" scene with Liz she had this awkward smile and laugh that seemed as if it escaped on accident when she said to go get ice. Maybe it is because I can see the Gaga under this character and exactly how she would be as herself in a scene doing Liz's makeup. To me, it just seems like Gaga being herself but literally just trying to keep a straight face and be more monotone. It is not even like she is a bad actress. It seems like this show was just written so terribly, they thought up this deadpan character they thought would be such a glamorous enigma but ended up being lame because they never wrote in any character development. I am grasping at straws at this point, I really just don't get it. Can anyone explain how they think she is supposed to be? As an actor myself, I see what you mean. I don't know if it's the acting or the terrible writing. Even a great actor can only do so much with a bad role. The entire character isn't a challenge to her-I won't be able to tell you if she can act until I see her in a role that isn't essentially Lady Gaga with blood. Either way this many episodes in I feel like other characters have shown more acting depth and have had better character development.

That's exactly how a person living a hundred years would act and feel. Also, I think we don't know many important details about her past life. Maybe she's had so many heart breaks and trauma that it made her so cold. Also, when you've seen it all in this world, you definitely become indifferent. There's nothing that surprises you anymore. You already know the psychology of humans. I also think that as you've lived on this Earth for so long, you just can't find an equal partner for yourself, because people seem so childlike and boring to you. Their goals and thought are not what you expect. This also makes you extremely cold, because you always feel so alone and try to compensate your loneliness with short time entertainment. One more thing. The Countess is a cold-blooded murderer. She kills to survive. She's already killed so many people. She's witnessed so many deaths already. Do you think you can still be happy, honest and enthusiastic after killing people for so many years? Of course you become insensitive towards everything and everyone. Yet, she still has some kind of compassion left in her, but it's hiding very deep inside her. For me, the character makes total sense.

VOLANTIS 16,406
We dont even know her full Backstory yet. Instead of actually waiting to see how the show wraps up so many of you are dragging her for filth. Ryan never gives any of his characters soul secrets away in the first Episode. And he's actually taking intricate care to mold the Countess's character. She's supposed to be this being that's going to be unwrapped as the show progresses. We're actually seeing pretty spectacular bits and pieces and the last episode really made sense. We see her "Two" Sides. Ryan said how her character is involved with everything and everyone at the Hotel is supposed to be the whole 'Finish' to her. This is one of his Favorite creations. So can you guys just calm the **** down instead of making threads bashing her after every episode. I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half

I don't see much of Gaga in this role at all, The Countess is far more muted and diabolical and chilly than the actress playing her. The temptation for an actor would be to camp it up and turn her into a cartoon character. I think Gaga's take is bolder and more credible, she has taken into consideration what this character would be like if she were real. The way she moves, speaks, and operates is very specific and un-Gaga. Agreed that some other actors have had more screentime, but I think she's been more impressive than established actors like Bomer, Bassett, and Sevigny. gagaohlala 810
She was so awkward when she spoke to Iris when she was living the Hotel in a countess dress. Like her face was kinda... Special. Like botoxed (maybe it's the problem in fact ?), she was smiling but in a weird way. Don't know if you all see what I mean. I don't know what to think about Gaga and about The Countess. I find her pretty scary in that scene. Tbh I find it quite funny how the only negative comments I've seen about Gaga's performance have been on this website. I was even reading the comments section of the Daily Mail recently and non-fans were praising her acting. She is proving herself slowly but surely. I look forward to future scenes where she gets to show her versatility, because I truly think there's a great actress hiding underneath.  I love judas SO MUCH but I canÊčt look like a copycat of JLO!!!! GreenEyes 1,065
I feel we should understand that every season there a collection of characters that keep their cool then eventually their true character comes out. The fact that Gaga's character is over 100 years old, she knows how to walk, talk, and deal with others. She is very intelligent, clever, and she just knows what she is doing and how to deal with things. We see that she can have a breakdown with that incident with Ramona, but we don't want Gaga's character to be blown away too fast. Something is going to happen to her when she will lose her cool, I give it a couple more episodes. Also why do i see complaints about her screen time? Imo everyone on the show gets an equal amount of screen time. I knew this was going to happen right when they said she was going to be on the show, all of her "fans" were going to complain about every little detail of her character. It also seems like you guys have never watched the previous seasons of the show to know how they flow, they all start out slow. Every single season, not till about now in the 4-6th episodes till things start getting crazy. She will even maybe break out of character too much that you guys will complain tbh :wtf:Â
