Yves 1,891
Objectively, 1989 is for sure very basic and lame. Just because it's 'cohesive' or 'pure' doesn't mean it's good. Yeah it's pop, but it isn't quality pop. There isn't any 80s sound in the album whatsoever. Just because Taylor says it is doesn't mean it is true. PRISM is very basic and lame, too. FGGrayson 9,670
It's garbage too because self-titled was better than Morning Phase in every measurable facet. how dare you 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

Anderson123 37,815
When 1989 is the album to win at the Grammys, you know there's something bad about music in 2013-2015. Of course there are many albums better than that one and many many more are not as popular, but it'd suck if it wins.

Monster2015 1,117
HBHBHB is a way better contender over 1989 tbh....but she's on the committee so I mean I won't be surprised if 1989 wins either

Psychedelic 1,098
It's a great album, it deserves Best Pop Vocal Album, but not AOY!

Yeah it's pop, but it isn't quality pop. There isn't any 80s sound in the album whatsoever. Just because Taylor says it is doesn't mean it is true. Incorrect. Your claim that it's "basic and lame" is the definition of subjective. And the opening track itself is mostly 80s-themed electronic beats. And there are 80s sounds throughout the album if you actually had the patience to really listen to it then you would no. Also, it's very rare for a pop album to be truly cohesive these days, so Taylor clearly deserves some applause for that. Sorry that your fave's albums are sonic messes. And I'm not going to continue arguing with a Katy Perry stan....because that's just sad. Just because KatyCat1013 says something doesn't mean it's true either. So don't quote me again. Tropico 4,145
In response to the Beyonce/Beck debacle I feel like more people discussed HOW beyonce's album was released, rather than the quality. 1989 on the other hand has been revered as one of the best pop albums of the past decade, so I am praying it wins. But above all else BEYONCE is recognized for being her best work and if I recall, it has the highest metacritic score for a female artist. The album was personal, allowed Beyoncé to explore new grounds and was original. No shade to 1989 but BEYONCE is far superior and it didn't get AOTY. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Tropico 4,145
1989 is one of the most cohesive pop albums to come out in the past decade. People can call it "basic" and "lame", but it truly isn't. There's an underlying theme throughout it that doesn't dissolve away, it features a lot of classic 80s sounds without trying too hard, and it's full of bops...and this is all coming from a once-country singer. The 80's thing was bulls--t and she just said it to make it seem like 1989 had a theme going on. Albums like The Fame and 4 have more 80's influence than 1989. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Tropico 4,145
It was the album of the year. It's the obvious choice. I must disagree. Just of the top of my heads albums released in 2014/2015 that are better than 1989 LP1 Crybaby FROOT BADLANDS To Pimp A Butterfly Honeymoon Broke With Expensive Taste But I mean it's all subjective. I just feel those albums showed more originality and skill. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
GagaXCupcakke 3,818
It's going to very close between 1989 and To Pimp a Butterfly. I don't think Taylor will get AOTY, but she really deserves it. She will win best pop album and maybe ROTY. And best pop song, and maybe best pop duo/group. It's going to be a big year for her at the Grammys.
