I think it probably has to do with her using her body issues and addictions positively and openly. She hasn't ever been stick thin and she has tried to celebrate that, instead of pushing it aside. 

I'm guessing these are the reasons. Don't come at me, like I'm some kind of Demi  stan....I'm just making a guess here. I'm also sure there are tons of artists that fill this category, but they picked her. There will be other years coming up.

her song had a lesbian undertone yet her music video was straight as hell. she has one song about breaking up and recorded the video at gay pride. :rip:

she hasn't broken any boundaries at all. just wants to be seen as a gay icon.

I know right, I am so tired of living in a world where being LGBT+ is considered "shocking" and random people pull the gay card just to bring attention
