She may not be intentionally hurting people but that doesn't mean what she's doing is okay.

That same texture that she adds to her hair because she wants to is the same texture many boys and girls like myself are born with which leads to us getting made fun of and even in some cases being told that it's a distraction to school/against the dress code.

Same goes for the skin tone situation too.

Just because it doesn't necessarily affect you doesn't mean it doesn't affect others.

If a Wiccan woman identifies as a witch and spends her weekends mixing love potions, and if that brings fulfillment to her life, I don't care if it's a lie. She can be a witch. 

If your Mother dyes her hair from grey to black, and lies about her age, we all know it's a lie. I'll call her 40 and not 50 if that makes her happy.

If someone wants to spend thousands of dollars on plastic breasts, and changes her name from Ruth to Barbie, I will indulge that lie and call her Barbie.

If Rachel Dolezal wants to add texture to her hair and dye her skin in order to join of a group of individuals who she feels a connection to, I will indulge that lie, and call her Black.

She isn't hurting anyone, she is living her life in a way that brings her fulfillment. 

I disagree, because the witch may truly believe in her magic and it's up to you to decide if it's true or not. 

Same go with your mother it's not her lie has a public impact, but if she was the ambassador for a shampoo brand that would be an issue

The issue with Rachel Dolezal and that she pretended to be born Black, I don't think it would have been an issue if she identified as Black as long as it didn't have such an impact on her work in the organisation, so in tha case I think she did hurt people, if it was only in her private life fair enough or if at least she admitted she wasn't born black but she caused harm in her lie. 

It's up to you if you don't mind people being dishonest like that but I do.
